The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only pyramid in Egypt known to contain both ascending and descending passages.

The main part of the Giza complex is a setting of buildings that included two mortuary temples in honor of Khufu ( one close to the pyramid and one near the Nile ), three smaller pyramids for Khufu's wives, an even smaller " satellite " pyramid, a raised causeway connecting the two temples, and small mastaba tombs surrounding the pyramid for nobles.

The " Khufu ship ", a 43. 6-meter-long vessel that was sealed into a pit in the Giza pyramid complex at the foot of the Great Pyramid of Giza around 2500 BC, is a full-size surviving example which may have fulfilled the symbolic function of a solar barque.

The ancient Egyptian pyramids are the most famous historical monuments devoted to the dead ( see Great pyramid of Giza ).

At, it is the sixth-largest pyramid in the world behind the Great Pyramid of Giza, Khafre's Pyramid, the Luxor Hotel, the Red Pyramid and the Bent Pyramid.

They have been preserved, along with the pyramid complex at Giza, as a World Heritage Site since 1979.

Furthermore, although the plan of Djoser ’ s pyramid complex is different than later complexes, many elements persist and the step pyramid sets the stage for later pyramids of the 4th, 5th, and 6th Dynasties, including the great pyramids at Giza.

However, the full development of the pyramid style of building was reached not at Saqqara, but during the building of the " great pyramids " at Giza.

The latter built the second pyramid and ( in traditional thinking ) the Sphinx in Giza.

The later kings of the Fourth Dynasty were king Menkaure ( 2494 – 2472 BC ), who built the smallest pyramid in Giza, Shepseskaf ( 2472 – 2467 BC ) and, perhaps, Djedefptah ( 2486 – 2484 BC ).

This is an ancient joint and has been found joining the wooden planks of the " Khufu ship ", a 43. 6 m long vessel sealed into a pit in the Giza pyramid complex of the Fourth Dynasty around 2500 BC.

Petrie's published report of this triangulation survey, and his analysis of the architecture of Giza therein, was exemplary in its methodology and accuracy, and still provides much of the basic data regarding the pyramid plateau to this day.

This base is four times the size of that of the Great Pyramid of Giza and is the largest pyramid base in the Americas.

At high, Silbury Hill – which is part of the complex of Neolithic monuments around Avebury, which includes the Avebury Ring and West Kennet Long Barrow – is the tallest prehistoric human-made mound in Europe and one of the largest in the world ; it is similar in size to some of the smaller Egyptian pyramids of the Giza Necropolis.

Newgrange is also older than Stonehenge and the great pyramids of Giza It is in fact just one monument within the Neolithic Brú na Bóinne complex, alongside the similar passage tomb mounds of Knowth and Dowth, and as such is a part of the Brú na Bóinne UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Some of the early Egyptologists and excavators of the Giza pyramid complex believed the Great Sphinx and other structures in the Sphinx enclosure predated the traditional date of construction ( the reign of Khafra or Khephren, 2520 – 2492 BC ).

Furthermore several alabaster and travertine fragments of seated statues, which were found by George Reisner during his excavations at Giza, were once inscribed with Khufu's full royal titulary, today the complete or partial preserved cartouches with the name Khufu or Khnum-Khuf are left over.

Menkaure's pyramid at Giza was called Netjer-er-Menkaure which means " Menkaure is Divine ".

In September 2004, he claimed, along with his colleague Gilles Dormion, to have discovered a corridor inside the Great Pyramid of Giza which he believes could lead directly to the burial chamber of Pharaoh Khufu.

Kobol is rediscovered in the aforementioned " Lost Planet of the Gods ", which depicts at least part of the planet as being a desert, with ruins similar ( or possibly identical ) to the Egyptian Pyramids of Giza ; parts of the episode were filmed on location at Giza.
