* 1866 – The Grand Army of the Republic, an American patriotic organization composed of Union veterans of the American Civil War, is founded.

* 1775 – The becomes the first vessel to fly the Grand Union Flag ( the precursor to the Stars and Stripes ); the flag is hoisted by John Paul Jones.

The gladiatorial fight to the death scene between Snake and Slag ( played by professional wrestler Ox Baker ) was filmed in the Grand Hall at St. Louis Union Station.

A later claim of a live individual sighted in 1852 on the Grand Banks of Newfoundland has been accepted by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources ( IUCN ).

The next established union which made an impact on the trade movement was the Grand National Consolidated Trade Union.

With the Union of Lublin Lithuanian Grand Duchy lost large part of lands to the Polish Crown ( see demographics of the Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth ).

On May 1, 2004, together with President Kwaśniewski, he was in Dublin, taking part in the Grand Ceremony of accession of 10 states, including Poland, to the European Union.

Its nobility ruled Poland when Queen Jadwiga was too young to control the state, and the Union of Krewo with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was the brainchild of Lesser Poland's szlachta.

During that period, MacKaye and Nelson put together a studio-only project called Skewbald / Grand Union ; in a reflection of the slowly increasing disagreements between the two musicians, they were unable to decide on one name.

After the Union of Lublin in 1569, the Kingdom of Poland became, through personal union with the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and thus the Sejm was supplemented with new envoys from among the Lithuanian nobility.

On July 5, 2008, the Grand Rapids, Michigan, Starbucks Workers Union and CNT-AIT in Seville, Spain, organized a global day of action against alleged Starbucks union-busting, in particular the firing of two union members in Grand Rapids and Seville.

According to the Grand Rapids Starbucks Workers Union website, pickets were held in several dozen cities in more than a dozen countries.

The relationship with Ferrari turned sour during 1937, and Nuvolari raced an Auto Union as a one-off in the Swiss Grand Prix that year before agreeing to race for them for the 1938 season.

Nuvolari remained at Auto Union until Grand Prix racing was put on hiatus by World War II.

In this year, Nuvolari scored his most impressive victory, thought by many to be the greatest victory in car racing of all times, when at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, driving an old Alfa Romeo P3 ( 3167 cc, compressor, 265 hp ) versus the dominant, all conquering home team's cars of five Mercedes-Benz W25 ( 3990 cm³, 8C, compressor,, driven by Caracciola, Fagioli, Hermann Lang, Manfred von Brauchitsch and Geyer ) and four Auto Union Tipo B ( 4950 cc, 16C, compressor,, driven by Bernd Rosemeyer, Varzi, Hans Stuck and Paul Pietsch ).

Not wanting to leave Alfa Romeo, he drove an Auto Union in the Swiss Grand Prix as a one-off.

* July 1 – The Union of Lublin unites the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania into a single state, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

** The Union of Krewo establishes the Jagiellonian dynasty in Poland and Lithuania through the proposed marriage of Queen Jadwiga of Poland and Grand Duke Jagiello of Lithuania, and sees the acceptance of Roman Catholicism by the Lithuanian elite.

* October 2 – Kingdom of Poland and Grand Duchy of Lithuania sign the Union of Horodło

In the Union of Horodło, signed on 2 October 1413, he decreed that the status of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was " tied to our Kingdom of Poland permanently and irreversibly " and granted the Catholic nobles of Lithuania privileges equal to those of the Polish szlachta.

After an initial period of independent feudal consolidation, Belarusian lands were incorporated into the Kingdom of Lithuania, Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and later in the Polish – Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Russian Empire and eventually the Soviet Union.

The Grand Canal of China at Suzhou

By far the longest canal was the Grand Canal of China, still the longest canal in the world today, and the oldest extant one.

To break out of the limitations caused by river valleys, the first summit level canals were developed with the Grand Canal of China in 581 – 617 AD whilst in Europe the first, also using single locks, was the Stecknitz Canal in Germany in 1398.

Internally, the Grand Canal linked the political heartland in Chang ' an to the economic and agricultural centers in the eastern and southern parts of the empire.

Domestically, the Grand Canal was expanded and proved to be a stimulus to domestic trade.

Two further water bodies – the Grand Canal on the southside and the Royal Canal on the northside – ring the inner city on their way to the west and the River Shannon.

Completed projects include the Convention Centre, The O < sub > 2 </ sub >, and the Grand Canal Theatre.

The inner orbital route runs approximately around the heart of the Georgian city and the outer orbital route runs primarily along the natural circle formed by Dublin's two canals, the Grand Canal and the Royal Canal, as well as the North and South Circular Roads.

The best known theatres include the Gaiety, Abbey, Olympia, Gate, and Grand Canal.

The Grand Canal Theatre is a new 2, 111 capacity theatre which opened in March 2010 in the Grand Canal Dock.

Heavy fighting occurred at the rebel-held positions around the Grand Canal as these troops advanced towards Dublin.

John Cross inexplicably jumped or fell from their hotel balcony into the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy during their honeymoon.

Albert of Prussia (; ) ( 17 May 1490 – 20 March 1568 ) was the 37th and last sovereign Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights and, after converting to Lutheranism, the first duke of the Duchy of Prussia, which was the first state to adopt the Lutheran faith and Protestantism as the official state religion.

Because Albert was a member of the Brandenburg-Ansbach branch of the House of Hohenzollern, it had been hoped that his election as Grand Master would reverse the decline of the Teutonic Knights since 1410 ; Duke Frederick of Saxony of the House of Wettin had been elected for the same reason.

His mother was Sophia, daughter of Casimir IV Jagiellon, Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland, and his wife Elisabeth of Austria.

Albert was chosen as his successor early in 1511 in the hope that his relationship to his maternal uncle, Sigismund I the Old, Grand Duke of Lithuania and King of Poland, would facilitate a settlement of the disputes over eastern Prussia, which had been held by the Order under Polish suzerainty since the Second Peace of Thorn ( 1466 ).

The Grand Master then journeyed to Wittenberg, where he was advised by Martin Luther to abandon the rules of his Order, to marry, and to convert Prussia into a hereditary duchy for himself.

Summoned before the imperial court of justice, Albert refused to appear and was proscribed, while the Order elected a new Grand Master, Walter von Cronberg, who received Prussia as a fief at the imperial Diet of Augsburg.

The Mughal Emperor Farrukhsiyar a grandson of Aurangzeb, is also known to have sent a letter to the Ottomans bu this time it was received by the Grand Vizier Nevşehirli Damad Ibrahim Pasha providing a graphic description of the informing him of the efforts of the Mughal commander Syed Hassan Ali Khan Barha against the Rajput and Maratha rebellion.

The distinction of a Knight Commander of the Indian Empire was conferred upon him by Queen Victoria in 1897 ( and later Knight Grand Commander in 1902 by Edward VII ) and he received like recognition for his public services from the German Emperor, the Sultan of Turkey, the Shah of Persia and other potentates.

He was made a " Knight of the Indian Empire " by Queen Victoria, a Knight Commander of the Order of the Indian Empire by Edward VII ( 1902 ), and a Knight Grand Commander of the Order of the Star of India by George V ( 1912 ).

Alexander (; ) ( 5 August 1461 – 19 August 1506 ) of the House of Jagiellon was the Grand Duke of Lithuania and later also King of Poland.

He was elected Grand Duke of Lithuania on the death of his father ( 1492 ), and King of Poland on the death of his brother John I Albert ( 1501 ).

For want of funds, Alexander was unable to resist the Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights or prevent Grand Duke of Muscovy Ivan III from ravaging Grand Duchy of Lithuania with the Tatars.

The most the Grand Duke of Lithuania could do was to garrison Smolensk and other strongholds and employ his wife Helena, the Tsar's daughter, to mediate a truce between his father-in-law and himself after the disastrous Battle of Vedrosha ( 1500 ).

Great solicitude was devoted to the education of Nicolas as tsarevich, whereas Alexander received only the training of an ordinary Grand Duke of that period.

He was the 996th Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in Spain, the 104th Grand Cross of the Order of the Tower and Sword in 1861 and the 775th Knight of the Order of the Garter in 1881.

His pattern was unusually small, but he also made a wider model now known as the " Grand Amati ", which have become his most sought-after violins.

* A " Jumbo " body style is bigger again than a Grand Auditorium but similarly proportioned, and is generally designed to provide a deeper tone, similar to a dreadnought ( the body style was designed by Gibson to compete with the dreadnought ) but with maximum resonant space for greater volume and sustain.

He was posthumously awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun in 1999.

He was made the 756th Knight of the Order of the Garter in 1867 and the 127th Grand Cross of the Order of the Tower and Sword.
