Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien's acclaimed drama Three Times ( 2005 ) is silent during its middle third, complete with intertitles ; Stanley Tucci's The Impostors has an opening silent sequence in the style of early silent comedies.

The 3rd-century Sanguozhi ( Wade-Giles: San-kuo-chih ; 三國志 ; " Records of Three Kingdoms ") and 5th-century Hou Hanshu ( 後漢書 ; " Book of the Later Han ") record that Hua was from the district of Qiao ( 譙 ) in the state of Pei ( 沛, i. e., modern Bozhou district in Anhui Province ), and studied Chinese classics throughout the Xuzhou region ( modern Jiangsu and Shandong ).

The earliest historical events documented by the evidence recovered at Mỹ Sơn relate to the era of King Bhadravarman I ( Phạm Hồ Đạt in Vietnamese, Fan Hou Ta as transcribed from the Chinese ), who ruled from 380 until 413, and who spent the latter part of his reign waging war against the population of Chinese-occupied northern Vietnam.

Shochiku produced the film Café Lumière ( 珈琲時光 ), directed by Taiwanese filmmaker Hou Hsiao-Hsien as homage to Ozu, with direct reference to the late master's Tokyo Story ( 1953 ), to premiere on Ozu's birthday.

This event was recorded in the Hou Han Shu compiled by Fan Ye in the 5th century.
