# Infrared Interferometer Spectrometer ( IRIS )

The scan platform comprises: the Infrared Interferometer Spectrometer ( IRIS ) ( largest camera at top right ); the Ultraviolet Spectrometer ( UVS ) just above the UVS ; the two Imaging Science Subsystem ( ISS ) vidicon cameras to the left of the UVS ; and the Photopolarimeter System ( PPS ) under the ISS.

Current observational experiments in the infrared include NICMOS, the Cosmic Origins Spectrograph, the Spitzer Space Telescope, the Keck Interferometer, the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy, and the Herschel Space Observatory.

; Cooled Mid Infrared Camera and Spectrometer ( COMICS ): Mid-infrared camera and spectrometer with the ability to study cool interstellar dust, mounts on the Cassegrain focus.

; NIRSPEC: The Near Infrared Spectrometer studies very high redshift radio galaxies, the motions and types of stars located near the Galactic Center, the nature of brown dwarfs, the nuclear regions of dusty starburst galaxies, active galactic nuclei, interstellar chemistry, stellar physics, and Solar System science.

Radial velocity measurements of this star using the Near Infrared Spectrometer ( NIRSPEC ) instrument at the Keck II observatory have not revealed any variations that might otherwise indicate the presence of an orbiting companion.

This payload consisted of the Cryogenic Infrared Radiance Instrumentation for Shuttle ( CIRRIS-1A ) experiment, Far Ultraviolet Camera experiment ( FAR UV ), the Uniformly Redundant Array ( URA ), the Quadrupole Ion Neutral Mass Spectrometer ( QINMS ), and the Horizon Ultraviolet Program ( HUP ) experiment.

; OMEGA: The Visible and Infrared Mapping Spectrometer ( OMEGA ) was designed to map Mars surface compisition of igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, soils, frosts, and ices.

The Infrared Detector Laboratory built the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer ( NICMOS ) instrument for the Hubble Space Telescope and the Multiband Imaging Photometer ( MIPS ) instrument for the Spitzer Space Telescope.

In addition to the ATLAS-03 investigations, the mission included deployment and retrieval of the Cryogenic Infrared Spectrometer Telescope for Atmosphere, or CRISTA.

The two older instruments being replaced were the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph and the Faint Object Spectrograph, exchanged for the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph ( STIS ) and the Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer ( NICMOS ), respectively.

Lee and Smith removed two scientific instruments from Hubble, the Goddard High Resolution Spectrograph ( GHRS ) and Faint Object Spectrograph ( FOS ), and replaced them with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph ( STIS ) and Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer ( NICMOS ), respectively.

It contains more than 20 major instruments and devices including a High-Resolution Mass Spectrometer, Infrared Spectrometer, X-Ray Quadrupole Diffractometer, Laser Raman Spectrometer, FT-IR Spectrometer, and others.

The crew of STS-109 successfully upgraded the Hubble Space Telescope ’ s systems over the course of five consecutive EVAs, leaving it with a new power control unit, improved solar arrays, the new Advanced Camera for Surveys ( ACS ), and an experimental refrigeration unit for cooling the dormant Near Infrared Camera and Multi-Object Spectrometer ( NICMOS ).

* NICS (" Near Infrared Camera and Spectrometer "), camera and spectrograph for observations in the near-infrared ;

VIRTIS: The " Visible and Infrared Thermal Imaging Spectrometer " ( VIRTIS ) is an imaging spectrometer that observes in the near-ultraviolet, visible, and infrared parts of the electromagnetic spectrum.
