The program, based on a self-certification process, is free of charge and open to all companies using MPEG technology, not just members of MPEGIF although, membership is encouraged.

* mpc-Musepack or MPC ( formerly known as MPEGplus, MPEG + or MP +) is an open source lossy audio codec, specifically optimized for transparent compression of stereo audio at bitrates of 160 – 180 kbit / s.

The next enhanced codec developed by ITU-T VCEG ( in partnership with MPEG ) after H. 263 is the H. 264 standard, also known as AVC and MPEG-4 part 10.

MPEG also standardizes the protocol and syntax under which it is possible to combine or multiplex audio data with video data to produce a digital equivalent of a television program.

Joint Collaborative Team on Video Coding ( JCT-VC ) is a group of video coding experts from ITU-T Study Group 16 ( VCEG ) and ISO / IEC JTC 1 / SC 29 / WG 11 ( MPEG ).

MPEG-1 Part 2 video is rare nowadays, and this extension typically refers to an MPEG program stream ( defined in MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 ) or MPEG transport stream ( defined in MPEG-2 ).

The audio coding algorithm used by the Eureka 147 Digital Audio Broadcasting ( DAB ) system has been subject to the standardization process within the ISO / Moving Pictures Expert Group ( MPEG ) in 1989 – 94.

All algorithms for MPEG-1 Audio Layer I, II and III were approved in 1991 as the committee draft of ISO-11172 and finalized in 1992 as part of MPEG-1, the first standard suite by MPEG, which resulted in the international standard ISO / IEC 11172-3 ( a. k. a. H. 264 / MPEG-4 AVC is a block-oriented motion-compensation-based codec standard developed by the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group ( VCEG ) together with the International Organization for Standardization ( ISO )/ International Electrotechnical Commission ( IEC ) joint working group, the Moving Picture Experts Group ( MPEG ).

While the actual DVB-S standard only specifies physical link characteristics and framing, the overlaid transport stream delivered by DVB-S is mandated as MPEG-2, known as MPEG transport stream ( MPEG-TS ).

One or more MPEG-PSs are joined together into an MPEG transport stream ( MPEG-TS ); this is the basic digital stream which is being transmitted and received by TV sets or home Set Top Boxes ( STB ).
