The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority ( MBTA ) provides commuter rail service to neighboring Lakeville via the Middleborough-Lakeville line, whose terminus is on the border of the two towns.

A short stretch of the Middleborough-Lakeville line of the MBTA's commuter rail passes through the western section of town.

In addition to its highways, the terminus of the Middleborough-Lakeville Line of the MBTA's commuter rail is along the town's border ( the rail itself passes along the town line ; the parking lots are entirely within Lakeville ).

There are no railroad services in town ; the nearest rail service can be reached in Middleborough, at the terminus to the Middleborough-Lakeville line of the MBTA's commuter rail service.

The nearest rail service is either in Providence or at the terminus of the Middleborough-Lakeville line of the MBTA's commuter rail service to Boston.

The nearest inter-city ( Amtrak ) passenger rail station is in Providence ; however, the terminus of the Middleborough-Lakeville line of the MBTA's commuter rail is nearby, providing direct service to Boston.

It is at that same point where commuters may enter campus to gain access to the Bridgewater station of the MBTA's Middleborough-Lakeville commuter rail line.

From the north end of town, easy access can be had to Interstate 95 and the South Attleboro stop of the MBTA's commuter line between Providence and Boston.

The Old Colony Line does, however, pass through neighboring Weymouth, Abington and Whitman, as part of the Kingston-Route 3 line of the MBTA's commuter rail.

Gardner was formerly the terminus of the MBTA's Fitchburg Line, but the line was cut back to Fitchburg in 1987.

The Blue Line of the MBTA's subway line terminates in Revere ; there has been talk of extending the subway into Lynn.

The former Old Colony Railroad line runs through the eastern part of town, and is currently used as a part of the Plymouth-Kingston route of the MBTA's commuter rail line.

The town lies along the Kingston-Plymouth line of the MBTA's commuter rail service, with a stop along Route 27.

Kingston is one of the two termini of the Kingston / Plymouth line of the MBTA's Commuter Rail system.

The line, officially known as the East Boston Tunnel & Revere Extension by the MTA since 1952, was redesignated Blue on August 26, 1965 as part of the new MBTA's color-based re-branding.

The corridor was later recycled into the new route for the MBTA's Orange line and Amtrak's Northeast Corridor with much of the surface area being developed as a 52 acre ( 210, 000 m² ) linear park.

Packard's Corner is serviced by the Packard's Corner stop on the B Branch of the MBTA's Green Line, a light rail line that runs mostly above ground.

During the 1990s, an agreement was reached to extend MBTA's service out to Worcester, Massachusetts, making the line today's MBTA Framingham / Worcester Line.

The Downeaster uses the MBTA's Lowell Line from North Station to Wilmington, the Wildcat Branch to Wilmington Junction, and the Haverhill / Reading Line to the Massachusetts-New Hampshire state line.

Ball Square is a planned stop on the Green Line as part of the MBTA's anticipated extension of the surface rail line.

Commuter trains on the MBTA's Needham Line line also serve the station ; trains on the Providence / Stoughton Line and the Franklin Line pass the platform but do not stop.

The section of the line formerly used by the Eastern through Somerville, Everett and Chelsea is now used by the MBTA's Newburyport / Rockport Line, and the line west of there is used by the MBTA to bring Commuter Rail trains between the two halves of its system, in lieu of a North-South Rail Link, and by CSX to haul freight ( a daily train with produce to the Chelsea Produce Market and scrap metal to a processor in Everett ).

The station, situated underneath Newport Avenue, is the MBTA's southernmost station on the line in Massachusetts.

The line connects to the MBTA's Franklin Line at Walpole and the Providence / Stoughton Line at Mansfield

Other important Beech planes are the King Air / Super King Air line of twin-engine turboprops, in production since 1964, the Baron, a twin-engine variant of the Bonanza, and the Beechcraft Model 18, originally a business transport and commuter airliner from the late 1930s through the 1960s, which remains in active service as a cargo transport.

Most commuter ( or suburban ) trains are built to main line rail standards, differing from light rail or rapid transit ( metro rail ) systems by:

The Caltrain commuter rail line runs roughly parallel to the El Camino Real ( State Route 82 ) and Highway 101 corridors.

In the case of a rail line in the U. S., the owner of the property is said to retain a " residual common carrier obligation ", unless otherwise transferred ( such as in the case of a commuter rail system, where the authority operating passenger trains may acquire the property but not this obligation from the former owner ), and must operate the line if service is terminated.

Six of the seven lines of the commuter rail system, Metrolink, run out of Downtown Los Angeles, connecting Los Angeles, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, and San Diego counties with the other line connecting San Bernardino, Riverside, and Orange counties directly.

On April 28, 2008, the Utah Transit Authority opened the FrontRunner commuter rail line from Salt Lake City north to Ogden, serving the length of Davis County with stations in Woods Cross, Farmington, Layton, and Clearfield.

Service to Orlando will be expanded in the form of SunRail, a commuter rail line running from Volusia to Osceola County.

But in practice the triangulation method can be complicated, especially in areas where the same mobile phone towers serve two or more parallel routes ( such as a freeway with a frontage road, a freeway and a commuter rail line, two or more parallel streets, or a street that is also a bus line ).

The line, as with many others in the northwest London area, was designed to absorb commuter traffic from the new and rapidly expanding suburbs.

Westbrook ( Shore Line East station ) is a station along the Shore Line East commuter line.

During the 2000s, Lovejoy has been proposed by the Georgia Department of Transportation to be the endpoint of metro Atlanta's first commuter rail line.

Metra also provided commuter rail service on the Metra Electric line between Millennium Station and University Park.

Elburn is a far-west suburb situated due west of the Chicago Loop with frequent service on the Union Pacific / West line of the Metra commuter rail system.

This is a heavily used freight line which also carries Metra commuter rail traffic from Antioch, Illinois to the Chicago Loop.
