Plato ( 428 / 427 – 348 / 347 BCE ) presented accounts of reincarnation in his works, particularly the Myth of Er.

Sometimes such convictions, as in Socrates ' case, arise from a more general personal faith, at other times from anecdotal evidence such as Plato makes Socrates offer in the Myth of Er.

An analogous setup is described in the Myth of Er at the end of Plato's Republic.

Plato also proposes the concept that sinners were cast under the ground to be punished in accordance with their sins in the Myth of Er.

Trophonios has been of interest to classical scholars because the rivers of Lethe and Mnemosyne have close parallels with the Myth of Er at the end of Plato's Republic, with a series of Orphic funerary inscriptions on gold leaves, and with several passages about Memory and forgetting in Hesiod's Theogony.

In his " Myth of Er ", a section of the Republic, Plato describes the cosmos as the Spindle of Necessity, attended by the Sirens and turned by the three Fates.

In the Myth of Er, particularly, Plato rendered an account of the afterlife which involved a journey through seven planetary spheres and then eventual reincarnation.

The Myth of Er is a legend that concludes Plato's The Republic ( 10. 614-10. 621 ).

Socrates tells Glaucon the " Myth of Er " to explain that the choices we make and the character we develop will have consequences after death.

Thus in the Myth of Er, the gods send the falsely-pious and those moral out of conformity to norms to choose another life.

In the Myth of Er we are led to believe that philosophy will break the cycle of reward and punishment.

In 2008, Kingsoft featured Cheng in their popular online game The First Myth 2 ( 封神榜II ) as " Er Lang Shen " ( 二郎神 ) a character in the game.
