Some areas, such as the Virginia Military District and the Connecticut Western Reserve ( both in Ohio ), were used by the states as rewards to veterans of the war.

As part of negotiations with Virginia, who had claimed land in Ohio, to sign the Articles of Confederation, the United States granted them claims to land in Ohio which would be known as the Virginia Military District.

Before entering the United States Military Academy, Custer attended the McNeely Normal School, later known as Hopedale Normal College, in Hopedale, Ohio.

Colonel James Poage, a veteran of the American Revolution, arrived in the free state of Ohio from Staunton, Virginia in 1804 to claim the he had been granted in what was then the Virginia Military District.

Marysville was originally part of Northwest Territory, and then became part of the Virginia Military District within that territory, and eventually became part of the state of Ohio.

C .; the United States Military Academy at West Point ; Williams Park in St. Petersburg, Florida ; and Red Bud Springs Memorial Park in Kosciusko, Mississippi ; in Kosciuszko Park in East Chicago, Indiana ; and ( with Kazimierz Pułaski ) in Poland, Ohio, a township and village named in honor of the two heroes of the American Revolution.

He initially served in the ordnance department of the Union Department of the South, Army of the Potomac, Department of the Ohio, Army of the Cumberland and Military Division of the Mississippi.

His first professional positions were in the Thayer Military Band in Canton, directed by William E. Strassner followed by the Neddermeyer Band of Columbus, Ohio, conducted by Fred Neddermeyer.

After General Ambrose E. Burnside issued General Order Number 38, warning that the " habit of declaring sympathies for the enemy " would not be tolerated in the Military District of Ohio, Vallandigham gave a major speech on May 1, 1863, charging that the war was being fought not to save the Union but to free the slaves by sacrificing the liberty of all Americans to " King Lincoln.

Rickenbacker International is also the headquarters for the Ohio Military Reserve, one of the state defense forces of Ohio.

He attended Norwalk Academy in Ohio, and graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1853, first in his class, which included Philip H. Sheridan, John M. Schofield, and John Bell Hood ; Hood would oppose him later in the Western Theater.

The Act of May 18, 1796 provided for the appointment of a surveyor-general to replace the office of Geographer of the United States, and that “ sections shall be numbered, respectively, beginning with number one in the northeast section, and proceeding west and east alternately, through the township, with progressive numbers till the thirty-sixth be completed .” All subsequent surveys were completed with this boustrophedonical section numbering system, except the United States Military District of the Ohio Lands which had five mile ( 8 km ) square townships as provided by the Act of June 1, 1796, and amended by the Act of March 1, 1800.

He graduated from Winona High School, Winona, Mississippi ; received a bachelor of science degree from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York in 1955, and a master's degree in Nuclear Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio in 1962.

The Virginia Military District was an approximately 4. 2 million acre ( 17, 000 km² ) area of land in what is now the state of Ohio that was reserved by Virginia to use as payment for veterans of the American Revolutionary War.

Homer continued his military career as a member of the U. S. Air Force Reserve, initially as a C-141 instructor pilot with the 356th Airlift Squadron at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, then subsequently as an Academy Liaison Officer, recruiting potential candidates for both the Air Force Academy and the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps.

Allegheny College, Case Western Reserve University ( CWRU ), Denison University, Kenyon College, Oberlin College, Ohio Wesleyan University, and The College of Wooster were charter members in 1984, the same year that NCAC athletic conference play began.

This status was renewed and reinforced by the Quebec Act of 1774, which expanded Quebec's territory to include part of the Indian Reserve to the west ( i. e., parts of southern Ontario ), and other western territories south of the Great Lakes including much of what would become the United States ' Northwest Territory, including the modern states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin and parts of Minnesota.

* The province's territory was expanded to take over part of the Indian Reserve, including much of what is now southern Ontario, plus Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, and parts of Minnesota.

It was settled by people from Connecticut, who were given land grants in the northeastern portion of Ohio, then known as the Connecticut Western Reserve, of which Poland Township was the southeasternmost portion, or Town One, Range One.

In 1899, after a year of unhappy, initial employment at the College for Women of Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio, he became an instructor in psychology at Teachers College at Columbia University, where he remained for the rest of his career, studying human learning, education, and mental testing.

Geauga County was founded on March 1, 1806 as the second county in the Connecticut Western Reserve, originating from Trumbull County, Ohio.

Ebenezer Gay, a renowned Congregational minister ; U. S. Postmaster General Gideon Granger ; real estate speculator Oliver Phelps, once the largest landowner in America ; composer Timothy Swan ; architect Henry A. Sykes ; sculptor Olin Levi Warner ; Seth Pease, surveyor of the Western Reserve lands in Ohio, most of which were controlled by Suffield financiers and speculators ; and Thaddeus Leavitt, inventor of an early cotton gin, merchant and patentee of the Western Reserve lands.

Settlers from Goshen were the first to settle Hudson Township, Summit County, Ohio in the Connecticut Western Reserve.

In 1811, 16 men from Becket traveled to the Western Reserve and founded the village of Windham, Ohio.

Later, the federal government gave an area in the Western Reserve of Ohio as compensation for those established losses.
