While the Pixies were playing a concert with Throwing Muses, they were noticed by producer Gary Smith, manager of Fort Apache Studios.

However, due to differences between the band's manager Ken Goes and The Purple Tape producer Gary Smith, the Pixies ended up looking for a new producer and recording studio.

Having sent a pre-release tape of Come On Pilgrim to Albini, the Pixies ' manager, Ken Goes, invited him to a Boston dinner party at drummer David Lovering's house a few weeks after Come On Pilgrim < nowiki >'</ nowiki > s release.

VH2 also had many chart shows, including the " Indie 500 " weekend, which counted down the Top 500 Indie Songs with " There Is A Light That Never Goes Out " by The Smiths topping the chart ahead of songs by artists such as The Stone Roses, Pixies, Oasis, Dinosaur Jr, The Cure, The Strokes, Blur and Radiohead.

Of the previously unreleased songs, " Down to the Wire " features the New Orleans pianist Dr. John with Buffalo Springfield on an item from their shelved Stampede album ; " Love Is a Rose " was a minor hit for Linda Ronstadt in 1975 ; " Winterlong " received a cover by Pixies on the Neil Young tribute album from 1989, The Bridge ; and " Campaigner " is a Young song critical of Richard Nixon.

Francis later recalled: " The first place I made it with the Pixies was in Holland.

Meanwhile, in 2002 material from the band's original 17-track demo tape was released as an EP, Pixies, on Cooking Vinyl in the U. K. and SpinArt Records in the U. S .; Frank Black has also used these labels to release solo work and albums with The Catholics.

The Pixies played their first reunion concert on April 13, 2004, at The Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a warm-up tour through the U. S. and Canada was followed by an appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

Since 2005, Francis has at various times stated that the Pixies recording a new studio album was either a possibility, or an unlikelihood, the main obstacle being Deal's reluctance to do so.

When he first started writing songs for the Pixies, Francis says he was listening to nothing but Hüsker Dü, Captain Beefheart, and Iggy Pop ; Other influences associated with Francis include The Gun Club and The Cars.

It became a kind of new pop formula and, within a short while, " Smells Like Teen Spirit " was charging up the charts and even the members of Nirvana said later that it sounded for all the world like a Pixies song.

One notable citation as an influence was by Kurt Cobain, on influencing Nirvana's " Smells Like Teen Spirit ", which he admitted was a conscious attempt to co-opt the Pixies ' style.

I was basically trying to rip off the Pixies.

A 90-minute documentary called loudQUIETloud: a film about The Pixies directed by Steven Cantor and Matthew Galkin was released in 2006.

The influence of Pixies on Nirvana was noted by Kurt Cobain, who commented in a Rolling Stone interview, " I connected with that band so heavily that I should have been in that band — or at least a Pixies cover band.

Charles Thompson, singer / songwriter for the alternative band the Pixies, was known in that band as Black Francis.

He was called Frank Black as a solo performer, and again called Black Francis in a reunited Pixies.

The Breeders ' history began when Kim Deal, then bassist of the Pixies, began writing new material while the band was on a post-Surfer Rosa tour of Europe with Throwing Muses.

I wish Kim was allowed to write more songs for the Pixies, because ' Gigantic ' is the best Pixies song, and Kim wrote it.

The Pixies also played the Coachella Festival in Indio, California in 2004 and headlined Lollapalooza in 2005 at Chicago's Grant Park.

The Pixies also toured the UK to massive acclaim including a headline appearance at the Reading and Leeds Festivals.

Kim Deal generally plays four-string solid-body bass guitars and always uses a pick, particularly the " green Dunlops with the little turtle on them ", although since the Pixies ' reunion she has also been using custom green Dunlops with " KIM " written on them.

She was also shown using the guitar on the tourbus in the Pixies ' documentary film loudQUIETloud ( 2006 ).

She also appeared in the BBC's Seven Ages of Rock documentary series and talked about the style of The Pixies ' music, and its influence on other musicians.

Surf music also influenced a number of later rock musicians, including Keith Moon of The Who, East Bay Ray of the Dead Kennedys, and Pixies guitarist Joey Santiago.

Lanois also provided an instrumental score for LOUDquietLOUD, a documentary about the Pixies.

Pixies ( also Pixy, Pixi, Pizkie, Piskies and Pigsies as they are sometimes known in Cornwall ) are mythical creatures of folklore, considered to be particularly concentrated in the high moorland areas around Devon and Cornwall, suggesting some Celtic origin for the belief and name.

Glass ( also a County Upper School alumnus ) had been writing a fanzine entitled Planet Of Sound ( after the Pixies song of the same name ) alongside local singer-songwriter Greg McDonald, who at that time was fronting folk-influenced band The Hip Down ; Glass briefly joined The Hip Down on bass guitar in late 2000.

The fourth album and most commercial work yet, Getaway ( Sony ) was released in 2000, and was produced by Al Clay, who has also produced for the Pixies and Stereophonics.
