The Great Eastern Hotel was closed in 1923 by the newly formed LNER, the hotel having suffered a decline resulting from the opening of the new passenger port up-river at Parkeston Quay where a new hotel with the same name had been opened by the Great Eastern Railway.

The Railway and the Fred Harvey Company built the elegant Neoclassical and Beaux-Arts style El Garces Hotel and Santa Fe Station in 1908, was considered the " Crown Jewel " of the entire Fred Harvey chain.

What is now the Paducah and Louisville Railway built a station in the area in 1874, and a summer resort and hotel called Paine Hotel developed around a shaded ridge on Muldraugh Hill, what came to be called Pleasure Ridge.

The hotel beside the fort is called the Fort Garry Hotel, which was originally constructed for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway company.

After Kit Lambert and Chris Stamp discovered the High Numbers at the Railway Hotel, the band changed their name back to The Who, since neither Lambert nor Stamp liked the name the " High Numbers ".

The first factory was in old stables behind the Railway Hotel in Hornsey, North London.

In 1880 Thomas Catron sold some of the grant to the Denver and Rio Grande Railway for the construction of their San Juan line and a service center at Chama.

* 1930 The Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway Company resumes work on a previous railroad, making access possible to San Angelo and Sonora.

* 1911-The Lometa-Eden branch of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway was built through San Saba County.

The railroad reached Presidio County in 1882 when the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway laid tracks through its northeastern corner.

In 1880, the main line of the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway was extended west from San Antonio, connecting to the Mexican Railway in Piedras Negras.

The construction of the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway in 1883 gave the wool and mohair industry access to markets.

* 1887 San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway begins Boerne to San Antonio route.
