Exorcisms are carried out through the use of various rituals of exorcism, such as the Roman Ritual, and often utilize attendant sacramentals such as holy water, while deliverance involves the ongoing counseling of the individual through various programs.

In 1890, the longer form of this prayer was included as a sort of preface to a series of prayers of exorcism that was included in the Roman Ritual.

The Roman Ritual () is one of the official ritual works of the Roman Rite of the Catholic Church.

This book is the foundation of our Roman Ritual.
