" The first coherent history of Mount Lebanon was written by Tannus al-Shidyaq ( died 1861 ) who depicted the country as a feudal association of Maronites, Druzes, Melkites, Sunnis and Shi ' ites under the leadership of the Shihab emirs.

A ninth-century Baghdad jurist praised the healing powers of the instrument, and the 19th century writer Muhammad Shihab al-Din related that it " places the temperament in equilibrium " and " calms and revives hearts.

The most prominent among them was Bashir Shihab II, who was much like his predecessor, Fakhr ad Din II.

Both Napoleon and Al Jazzar, the governor of Acre, requested assistance from the Shihab leader ; Bashir, however, remained neutral, declining to assist either combatant.

In 1788 Bashir Shihab II ( sometimes spelled Bachir in French sources ) would rise to become the Emir.

The discontent grew to open rebellion, fed by both Ottoman and British money and support: Bashir II fled, the Ottoman empire reasserted control and Mehmed Hüsrev Pasha, whose sole term as Grand Vizier ran from 1839 to 1841, appointed another member of the Shihab family, who styled himself Bashir III.

At first she was greeted by emir Bashir Shihab II, but over the years she gave sanctuary to hundreds of refugees of Druze inter-clan and inter-religious squabbles and earned his enmity.

Throughout the siege, both Napoleon and Jezzar sought in vain the assistance of the Shihab leader, Bashir — ruler of much of present-day Lebanon.

In 1698 ʿUmar az-Zaydānī had been appointed governor and chief tax collector ( Multazem ) of the Safad region by Emir Bashir Shihab the First ( 1698 – 1705 ), governor ( Wali ) of Mount Lebanon.

He was also influenced by the work of ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, who praised the young ibn Ishaq for his knowledge of maghāzī ( literally, stories of military expeditions ).

His father, Maulana Shihab al-Din, was a well-known scholar of the time who had studied at Deoband and had achieved the rank of alim, through his studies of Islamic law ( fiqh, hadith, Qur ' anic tafsir, logic, philosophy and other subjects ).

The second son, Nur al-Din Shah, who was the full-brother of Shihab al-Din Shah, died around 1884-5 in a riding accident at Pune while still in his youth.

The untimely loss of his father, Aqa Ali Shah, so soon after the loss of his brother, Shihab al-Din Shah, must have been heartbreaking for the young Sultan Muhammad Shah, who was only seven and a half years old at the time.

He inherits passion in academical achievements from his father, Prof. Dr. Abdurrahman Shihab, who was a dean at IAIN Alauddin in Makassar, South Sulawesi.

One of his supporters, Muslim ibn Shihab, was the father of Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri who became a famous scholar.

He grew very famous and was fondly called Shihab Al Dein ( The Shooting Star ) for his fearlessness, strength and experience as a sailor who excelled in the art of navigation.

That year the Burid Shihab ad-Din Mahmud took control of Damascus after the assassination of his brother ; when Zengi gave up the siege and instead besieged Homs, Shahib ad-Din sent Yusuf bin Furuz and Mu ' in ad-Din to govern it, with Yusuf acting as Mu ' in ad-Din's lieutenant.

The term sīra was first linked to the biography of Muhammad by Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, and later popularized by the work of Ibn Hisham.

Panakkad Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal was born in Malappuram

Fuad Chehab ( Arabic: فؤاد شهاب ; also transliterated Fouad Shihab, or Chehab ; 19 March 1902 — 25 April 1973 ) was the President of the Lebanese Republic from 1958 to 1964.

After the death of Panakkad Sayeed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal on August 1, 2009, his brother Panakkad Sayed Hyderali Shihab Thangal was appointed as the President of the Kerala state committee of the party.

On 14 December, while the Sultan was walking with his friend Emir Shihab ad-Din Ahmad he was attacked and assassinated by Baydara and his followers.

Commanded by the Shiite Major-General Abd al-Halim Kanj, and headquartered at the Henri Shihab Barracks in the south-western suburbs of Beirut, this formation was subsequently enlarged by absorbing Shia deserters from other Army units.

Likewise, the scholarly achievements of ibn Taymiyyah's father, Shihab al-deen ' Abd al-Haleem ibn Taymiyyah ( d. 1284 ) were well known.

He studied under various famed scholars including Hisham ibn Urwah, Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri, and — along with Imam Abu Hanifa, the founder of the Hanafi Sunni Madh ' hab -- and under the household of the prophets lineage, Imam Jafar al Sadiq This fact may explain the mutual respect and relative peace that has often existed between the Hanafi and Maliki Sunnis, on one hand, and the Shias on the other.
