It is a voluminous text of 1430 Angs, compiled and composed during the period of Sikh gurus, from 1469 to 1708.

There are a total of 11 gurus, of which the current, and everlasting, Sikh Guru is the integrated Sikh scriptures known as the Adi Granth or, Siri Guru Granth Sahib.

Siddh Matrika seems to have been the prevalent script for devotional writings in Punjab right up to the founding of Sikh faith, after which its successor Gurmukhi appears.

Self-image may be directed toward conforming to mainstream values ( military-style crew cuts or current " fad " hairstyles such as the Dido flip ), identifying with distinctively groomed subgroups ( e. g., punk hair ), or obeying religious dictates ( e. g., Orthodox Jewish have payot, Rastafari have Dreadlocks, North India jatas, or the Sikh practice of Kesh ), though this is highly contextual and a " mainstream " look in one setting may be limited to a " subgroup " in another.

Islamism can also be described as part of identity politics, specifically the religiously-oriented nationalism that emerged in the Third World in the 1970s: " resurgent Hinduism in India, ultra-Orthodox Judaism in Israel, militant Buddhism in Sri Lanka, resurgent Sikh nationalism in the Punjab, ' Liberation Theology ' of Catholicism in Latin America, and of course, Islamism in the Muslim world.

The Sikh religion also teaches that human life is very precious, described as more precious than a diamond, which comes after great spiritual deeds and merits are done, and Sikh teachings are filled with guidance on how one should conduct one's self in order to find peace in this life and unite with God.

This resulted in an explosion of violence against the Sikh communities in the anti-Sikh riots which resulted in the massacre of thousands of Sikhs throughout India ; Khushwant Singh described the actions as being a Sikh pogrom in which he " felt like a refugee in my country.

Abdul Kalam described the Sikh leader as a " prominent political and social leader who was well known for his work during his many years in public life ".

Preta, प ् र े त ( Sanskrit ) or Peta ( Pāli ) or ཡ ི་ ད ྭ གས ་ Yidak in ( Tibetan ) ) is the name for a type of ( arguably supernatural ) being described in Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, and Jain texts that undergoes more than human suffering, particularly an extreme degree of hunger and thirst.

While he was born into Sikhism, and wore the traditional Sikh garb all his life, he gave up its traditional outer practices soon after initiation and devoted himself wholly to the inner, esoteric practice of listening to the Spiritual Sound Current, the Shabd, Naam, or Word manifestation of God as described in the world's major scriptures.
