In the Green Lantern Corps story " Tygers ", by Alan Moore, Abin Sur is witness to a prophecy which states that among the gathered enemies to destroy the Green Lantern Corps would be the " Weaponers of Qward "; the Sinestro Corps War storyline is a partial fulfillment of that prophecy, later to be known as " The Blackest Night ".

They carry miniature yellow Power Batteries inside them which are used by the Sinestro Corps members to charge their yellow power rings.
With three of them powerless, Hal and Kyle immediately engage Sinestro in combat, with the two Lanterns emerging as the victors against the despotic Korugarian.
In the final battle, Hal takes Kyle to the Book of the Black and makes him draw a picture of Sinestro, Carol Ferris and the others Lanterns traped in the Book which effectively free them from their prison.
Korugar was also the home planet of the renegade former Green Lantern Sinestro, who used his Green Lantern powers to enslave his planet, and rule over them as a tyrant, unbeknownst to his Guardian superiors.
He also reveals to John, that, after being resurrected by the Manhunters after the Sinestro Corps War, he returned to Earth in the middle of the Blackest Night, and pled to the Black Lanterns ( among them are the former crew of his space shuttle ) and Nekron to kill him, only to discover that because he did not have a physical heart, he was invisible to them.
