They were not, however, enough to prevent an assault by the Sinestro Corps, which resulted in the deaths of many Green Lanterns.

# Lethal force is authorized against the Sinestro Corps.

After the Green Lantern Sinestro betrayed the Green Lantern Corps and created the Yellow Lantern Corps, a prophecy was fulfilled that Lantern Corps of the other cosmic energies of emotion shall form, such as Red ( rage ), Orange ( greed ), Black ( death ), White ( life ), Indigo ( compassion ), Blue ( hope ), and Violet ( love ).

The decision of the Corps to execute Sinestro resulted in the activation of a previously unknown fail-safe that depowered the rings of every Green Lantern except for Hal Jordan, Guy Gardner, Gnort, and Ch ' p.

Rogue Green Lantern Sinestro, working with the Anti-Monitor, created his own version of the Corps.

Dubbed the " Sinestro Corps ", it recruited beings capable of generating great fear.

One of the members recruited into the Sinestro Corps was Amon Sur, the son of former Green Lantern Abin Sur, who held a grudge against Hal Jordan for being chosen to bear his father's ring instead of him.

Armed with yellow Power Rings and Lanterns manufactured on Qward, the Sinestro Corps staged an attack on Oa, killing dozens of Green Lantern Corps officers, kidnapping Kyle Rayner, and freeing Superboy-Prime, Parallax, and the Cyborg Superman from the Corps ' supervision.

As the Sinestro Corps ' campaign of terror spread, the Guardians, in desperation, rewrote the first Law of Ten in the Book of Oa, enabling the remaining Lanterns to use lethal force against members of the Sinestro Corps.

This distinction played a part in the expulsion of Laira from the Green Lantern Corps for killing Amon Sur when he was unarmed, her induction into the Red Lanterns, and subsequent death over the course of events during the Sinestro Corps War and Blackest Night storylines.

Following the Sinestro Corps War, Ganthet and Sayd are banished from the Guardians.

The Green Lantern corps, along with the other six corps ( The Sinestro Corps, the Red Lantern Corps, The Indigo Tribe, The Blue Lantern Corps, The Orange Lantern corps, and the Star Sapphires ), fight the black lanterns to regain safety and order in the universe.

Hal takes the Sinestro Corps ring, Guy takes the Red Lantern ring, John takes the Indigo Tribe ring, and Kyle takes the Blue Lantern ring.

As of 2011, Sinestro is still an unwilling Green Lantern, Hal remains exiled ( although he has been forced to assist Sinestro's activities with a ring created and powered by Sinestro ) while Kyle has gone AWOL alongside six members of the other Lantern Corps.

For this reason, the Sinestro Corps tried to destroy Mogo during the Sinestro Corps War.

In the aftermath of the Sinestro Corps War, with the Ion entity removed from his body, Kyle Rayner has been added to the Green Lantern Honor Guard as Guy's partner.

With the recent authorization of lethal force for the Corps in the aftermath of the Sinestro Corps War, the future and necessity of the Corpse remains unknown.

After the Sinestro Corps War, the Guardians create a new class of Green Lantern called the Alpha Lanterns.

In the Sinestro Corps War storyline in the Green Lantern titles and in the Countdown to Final Crisis limited series, the Superboy-Prime character was then known as Superman-Prime, a development that came about in part because of the legal dispute.

During the Green Lantern storyline Sinestro Corps War, Robin enlists Krypto's aid in battling against Superboy-Prime, who has returned to Earth as part of the Sinestro Corps.

Johns was responsible for the return of Hal Jordan in 2005 as the writer of the Green Lantern: Rebirth mini-series and subsequent Green Lantern ongoing title, helming its critically acclaimed " Sinestro Corps War " storyline.

In the Green Lantern Corps story " Tygers ", by Alan Moore, Abin Sur is witness to a prophecy which states that among the gathered enemies to destroy the Green Lantern Corps would be the " Weaponers of Qward "; the Sinestro Corps War storyline is a partial fulfillment of that prophecy, later to be known as " The Blackest Night ".

Jordan was horrified at his new mentor's totalitarian methods, though Sinestro maintained that his iron-fisted rule was necessary to protect his people from alien forces.

While attempting to escape the Book-which forces the New Guardians to re-live their lives prior to acquiring their current rings -, Sinestro discovers Indigo-1 in a prison cell, angrily proclaiming that she will escape whatever Abin Sur has planned for her, although he chooses to focus on his own escape rather than remain to question her more about this, only for Krona to burn the page that Sinestro is on before he can escape.

In the mist of the chaos, Sinestro gave Hal Jorden a temporary ring to help him out on missions, but the Guardians attacked them and both rings merged and became faulty and thought Sinestro and Jordan apparently dead so it went in search of a new Lantern, Simon Baz.

With Kyle Rayner having rebelled against the Guardians to join the ' New Guardians ' a makeshift team consisting of representatives from all seven Corps, Hal Jordan's recent expulsion, and based on the ' recommendations ' of the now-emotionless Ganthet, the Guardians are preparing to create the ' Third Army ' to replace the Green Lantern Corps, which involves them recovering the mysterious ' First Lantern ' for an undefined role, prompting Sinestro, who learned about this prophecy after touching the Book of the Black, to enlist Hal's aid in stopping this scheme.

The Guardians intervene with the Black Lantern, Black Hand, charging him up with enough power to drain Green Lanterns Hal and Sinestro, which apparently kills them both.

Her eyes, which usually bore the symbol of the Green Lantern Corps in the pupil, contained the symbol of the Corps with whom she was presently associating ( e. g., the symbol of the Sinestro Corps appeared in her pupils when she informed them of Sinestro's impending execution ).

One year later, Superboy is released from his prison by the newly-formed Sinestro Corps and joins them, becoming one of their heralds and wearing a Sinestro Corps uniform beneath his Anti-Monitor inspired armor.

All Qwardians now sport slave collars, put on them by Sinestro himself to assure their loyalty.

One of these Qwardians, a master weaponer, takes the constructs left behind by Deadman, fashions them into a powerful hammer and shield ( empowered by the White Light ) and vows revenge against Sinestro.

Sinestro believed himself to have been wronged by his former masters and now hated them just as much as the Weaponers did.

Sinestro quickly became the Green Lantern Corps ' most powerful nemesis, partially due to a weakness in their power rings that prevented them from directly affecting the color yellow.

He confronts Earth's Green Lanterns, and upon their escape, follows them toward Earth, the Sinestro Corps ' real target.

However, Sinestro proves unable to fully control the Entity's power because of his egomaniacal personality, and Nekron is able to separate them.

Black Hand regains the upper hand and buries Sinestro and Hal alive, until they break out and the Guardians arrive and command Black Hand to kill them.

When Batman was fighting Despero, he mentioned that Sinestro was in jail for destroying the Okaran warships, taking every living being on those ships with them.

Despite the combined efforts of the New Guardians ( sans Sinestro and Carol Ferris ), Krona still managed to overwhelm them with the assistance of Ophidian.

Later as Hal Jordan, Larfleeze, Atrocitus, Saint Walker, Indigo-1 and a returned Sinestro tried to reach Zamaron, since the entity of love was the only one still free, they found instead a delusioned Carol Ferris who tells them that Krona had captured the Predator.

However, despite his attempts to stop them by using Mogo against them, Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner and Kyle Rayner are able to escape Krona and fight back by using the rings of the other Corps — Hal wielding a Sinestro and an Orange ring, Guy a Red and a Star Sapphire, Kyle a Blue, and John an Indigo — to escape Parallax's influence long enough to kill Mogo and extract Parallax from the Power Battery.

They carry miniature yellow Power Batteries inside them which are used by the Sinestro Corps members to charge their yellow power rings.

With three of them powerless, Hal and Kyle immediately engage Sinestro in combat, with the two Lanterns emerging as the victors against the despotic Korugarian.

In the final battle, Hal takes Kyle to the Book of the Black and makes him draw a picture of Sinestro, Carol Ferris and the others Lanterns traped in the Book which effectively free them from their prison.

Korugar was also the home planet of the renegade former Green Lantern Sinestro, who used his Green Lantern powers to enslave his planet, and rule over them as a tyrant, unbeknownst to his Guardian superiors.

He also reveals to John, that, after being resurrected by the Manhunters after the Sinestro Corps War, he returned to Earth in the middle of the Blackest Night, and pled to the Black Lanterns ( among them are the former crew of his space shuttle ) and Nekron to kill him, only to discover that because he did not have a physical heart, he was invisible to them.
