Suicidal Tendencies is an American hardcore punk band founded in 1981 in Venice, Los Angeles, California by Mike Muir, its leader and only permanent member.

Muir, at the time a student at Santa Monica College, originally only intended Suicidal Tendencies as a " party band " for fun, but as the band grew in notoriety he soon found the band at the center of his life.

That same year was the first year of Suicidal ’ s four year recording hiatus and Mike Muir and bassist Louiche Mayorga formed the Label “ Suicidal Records ” as well as the band Los Cycos Jon Nelson left the group and Suicidal Tendencies were banned from playing L. A. shows from an Incident at Perkins Palace ( their fans tore out ten rows of seats and promoters couldn ’ t get the proper insurance to hire them ) Muir was also about to try his hand at producing as well as starting the new label.
In 1989 Suicidal Tendencies re-recorded " It's Not Easy " for their 1989 release " Controlled By Hatred / Feel Like Shit ... DejaVu " album.
The other Los Cycos track " A Little Each Day " which never made it to the album, was re-recorded for the 1987 Suicidal Tendencies release " Join the Army " and again on " Still Cyco After All These Years " released in 93.

In September 2010, Suicidal Tendencies released the album No Mercy Fool !/ The Suicidal Family which consists of re-recordings of tracks from the Join the Army album and of old No Mercy songs, plus the previously-released " Come Alive ".
Since at least 2002, there has been speculation of a Suicidal Tendencies album featuring all-new original material, with extensive reports that many tracks had been recorded with longtime producer Paul Northfield, known for his work with progressive rock bands like Dream Theater, Queensrÿche and Rush.

The album did not sell nearly as well as the past four Suicidal records ( although it did sell decently on the band's reputation alone ) and the only major single, " Love Vs. Loneliness ", featured a gloomy music video that hurt the song's airplay.

" Welcome to Venice " was the first record to be released on Suicidal Records, unfortunately the original masters were destroyed in a fire.
The songs were much more complex than on any other Suicidal album, some songs bordering on progressive metal, but also showed a new influence courtesy of Trujillo, funk.
Paul and Wackerman ( who had just joined Bad Religion ) had left Suicidal Tendencies by 2002, while the band was on a temporary hiatus, and were replaced by brothers Steve and Ron Bruner on bass and drums, respectively.
In January 2003, it was reported that Suicidal Tendencies were set to enter the studio later in the month to begin work on the album.
On October 21, 2004, Suicidal Tendencies announced on their official website that they were still working on the new album and stated that this had " been a major highlight, proud spot and focal point for the band in terms of creativity and ability to move forward with its various musical and visual projects.
" The band also stated that they were working producer Paul Northfield on both the Suicidal album and new Infectious Grooves album.
Bands such as RKL, NOFX, Stalag 13, Hogan's Heroes, Tales of Terror, The Faction, and Suicidal Tendencies were also among the first wave of skate punk bands, with the latter band also paving the way for skate punk bands to play funk metal .. Blink-182's first two albums, Cheshire Cat and Dude Ranch, were considered by some to be skate punk, and brought large popularity to the genre.
Other Orange County bands included Stick To Your Guns, White Mice, The Offspring, Big Drill Car, Guttermouth, SPLNTR, Suicidal Tendencies ( who were from Venice but were associated with Orange County hardcore ), China White, Shattered Faith, Masque of Demise, Social Task, The Screwz and Channel 3.
Among the many well-known bands and artists who contributed their music to the show were Roger Daltrey, El Debarge, Devo, Russ Ballard, Black Uhuru, Jackson Browne, Kate Bush, Meat Loaf, Phil Collins, Bryan Adams, Tina Turner, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, ZZ Top, The Tubes, Dire Straits, Depeche Mode, The Hooters, Iron Maiden, The Alan Parsons Project, The Ward Brothers, Godley & Creme, Corey Hart, Glenn Frey, U2, Underworld, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Foreigner, The Police, Red 7, Ted Nugent, Suicidal Tendencies, The Damned and Billy Idol.
They brought thrash metal to their music, influenced by bands such as Slayer, Exodus, Kreator and hardcore bands around the world that were also transitioning to a more thrash metal sound, like Suicidal Tendencies, D. R. I., English Dogs, Cro-Mags, Agnostic Front and others ( including Brazilian bands such as Lobotomia and Armagedom ).
1984 concert photos from Exodus shows at Aquatic Park's Eastern Front Metal Festival ( with Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies ) and Ruthie's Inn ( with Megadeth and Slayer ) were included on the album sleeve inserts.
