Clark Ashton Smith was the third member of the great triumvirate of Weird Tales, with Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard.

In 1971, Ashton performed the role of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle in the Royal Ballet film The Tales of Beatrix Potter, which he also choreographed .. Ashton was also responsible for choreographing the dance sequences in " The Jealous Lover " segment of the film The Story of Three Loves.

Smith was one of " the big three of Weird Tales, along with Robert E. Howard and H. P. Lovecraft, where some readers objected to his morbidness and violation of pulp traditions.

From 1933 to 1936, Smith, Howard and Lovecraft were the leaders of the Weird Tales school of fiction and corresponded frequently, although they never met.

She and Laughton played husband and wife ( their characters were named Charles and Elsa Smith ) in Tales of Manhattan ( 1942 ) and they both appeared again in the all-star, mostly British cast of Forever and a Day ( 1943 ).

Following a role in Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight ( 1995 ), Pinkett Smith co-starred with actor and comedian Eddie Murphy in the 1996 remake of The Nutty Professor.

These were closely related to the work that they and others were doing for outlets like Weird Tales, such as Moore's Northwest Smith stories cited above.

Smith immediately responded by booking the young Charles Mackerras as conductor to take charge of The Tales of Hoffman that season.

When the Swedish historian Per Beskow was preparing an English edition of Strange Tales about Jesus 1983, cast doubt on the Gospel, Morton Smith responded by threatening to sue the English language publisher, Fortress Press of Philadelphia, " for a million dollars " causing Fortress to amend the offending paragraph.

Their first album, Tales of Mystery and Imagination, including major contributions by all members of Pilot and Ambrosia, was a success, reaching the Top 40 in the US Billboard 200 chart.

Tales of Mystery and Imagination was first remixed in 1987 for release on CD, and included narration by Orson Welles which had been recorded in 1975, but arrived too late to be included on the original album.

Both of those songs appeared on Tales of Mystery and Imagination.

In Tales from the Crypt # 44 a plague-stricken man is eaten by a sperm whale, which produces ambergris that results in a cursed perfume.

According to Edith Hamilton's Mythology: Timeless Tales of Gods and Heroes, the Aegis is the breastplate of Zeus, and was " awful to behold.

* Paul Auster's collection of short stories entitled True Tales of American Life contains a story (' Mathematical Aphrodisiac ' by Alex Galt ) in which amicable numbers play an important role.

Tales concerning the Skjöldungs, possibly originating as early as the 6th century, were later used as a narrative basis in such texts as Gesta Danorum by Saxo Grammaticus and Hrólfs saga kraka.

The Asylum and Other Tales, a series of stand alone articles released in 1983, rated an overall 9 / 10 in Issue 47 of White Dwarf magazine.

The term was first coined by August Derleth, a contemporary correspondent of Lovecraft, who used the name of the creature Cthulhu — a central figure in Lovecraft literature and the focus of Lovecraft's famous short story The Call of Cthulhu ( first published in pulp magazine Weird Tales in 1928 )— to identify the system of lore employed by Lovecraft and his literary successors.

In " The Miller's Tale " in Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, a door is ripped off its hinges only to be slowly closed again in the next scene.
