The Terminator is a 1984 American science fiction action film directed by James Cameron, co-written by Cameron, Gale Anne Hurd and William Wisher Jr. and starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, and Linda Hamilton.

Though not expected to be either a commercial or critical success, The Terminator topped the American box office for two weeks and helped launch the film career of Cameron and consolidate that of Schwarzenegger.

With the tremendous success of Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 1991, Lightstorm Entertainment secured a five-year, $ 500 million financing deal with 20th Century Fox for films produced, directed or written by Cameron.

Terminator 2 screenwriter and frequent Cameron collaborator William Wisher had a cameo in the scene as a reporter in Santa Monica who catches the first tidal wave on camera.

While filming Terminator 2 in 1991, Hamilton began a relationship with director James Cameron, whom she had met seven years earlier when he directed her in the first Terminator film.

Point Break was released on July 12, 1991 in 1, 615 theaters, grossing $ 8. 5 million on its opening weekend, behind Terminator 2: Judgement Days ( directed by Bigelow's then husband, James Cameron ) second weekend and the openings of the re-issue of 101 Dalmatians and Boyz n the Hood.

In Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, a series that debuted January 13, 2008, Glau played the role of Cameron Phillips, a Terminator infiltration unit sent back to protect John Connor and Sarah Connor from Skynet.

In 2008, she received the Best Supporting Television Actress award at the 34th Saturn Awards for her performance as Cameron Phillips in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, and was nominated for the Spike TV Scream Awards in the category Best Actress in a Science Fiction Movie or TV Show for the same role.

The endoskeletons beneath are fully functional robots and have been seen operating independently, especially during the future segments of the Terminator movies.

TV critic Rob Owen perceived the episode to have touched upon many of the plot devices and themes commonly seen in time travel stories, most notably the Back to the Future and Terminator movies.

He tries to convince Slater that they are in a film, but Slater sees nothing unusual about his world, which includes a cartoon cat detective named Whiskers ( Danny DeVito ), a black-and-white image of Humphrey Bogart, female officers dressed in outlandish battle armor, and various characters from other Schwarzenegger films ( at one point, the T-1000 from Terminator 2 is clearly seen ).

As John begins planting hydrogen fuel cells ( similar to the ones powering the model seen in Terminator 3 ), human-cyborg terminator Marcus Wright arrives to stall the Terminator, able to match its strength due to his own metal endoskeleton, but due to Marcus harbouring biological organs, the Terminator is able to incapacitate him long enough to stab John through the heart from behind, fatally wounding him.

As seen in the movies, a Terminator can withstand standard 20th century firearms, crash through walls intact, and survive explosions to some degree.

This contradicts information from the first film, where Kyle Reese refers to the Model 101 as " new ", replacing the older rubber-skinned 600 series, also seen in Terminator Salvation.

In the film The Terminator, the eponymous character played by Arnold Schwarzenegger goes to a gun shop in 1984 LA and requests a " phased plasma rifle in a 40 watt range ," a weapon from its own time which can be seen being used by resistance fighters and terminators alike during the film's scenes of post " Judgment Day " conflict.
