Model United Nations ( also Model UN or MUN ) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about current events, topics in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations agenda.

More recently, simulation of other deliberative bodies, such as the United Nations National Security Council, has been included in Model United Nations, even if they are completely unrelated to the UN or international affairs as a whole.

More unusual committees abound at the collegiate level ; for instance, a college conference may simulate the Greco-Persian Wars via a committee of the Greek poleis, have a committee simulating the National Football League's annual owners meeting, as held at George Mason University MUN in 2009, or even have a committee simulating President David Palmer's cabinet from the TV show 24, simulated by the University of Pennsylvania Model UN Conference in 2007 .< ref >

Model United Nations conferences sponsored by UNA-USA, the National Collegiate Conference Association ( NCCA / NMUN ), and the International Model UN Association ( IMUNA / NHSMUN ) hold part of their sessions in the General Assembly chamber.

UTS students are actively involved in public speaking ; the UTS Debating Society is a major club and UTS students organize the Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly ( SOMA ), the largest and oldest Model United Nations conference run entirely by High School students in North America and the second largest Model UN conference for high school students in Canada.

* New York City-In May 2010, the Grand Hyatt near Grand Central Station in New York City was used as the conference center for the 2010 Model United Nations Conference, because of construction at the UN Headquarters, where it is usually held.

It has become a renowned conference in Model UN circuits.

The Global Classrooms program brings Model UN to urban public schools across the US and an array of schools around the world.

One example of this policy is the Stuyvesant Model UN club, which is one of the largest clubs in the school.

The club attends as many as 6 Model UN Conferences each year, held at various colleges across the Northeast.

Also of note is the academy's Model UN team, which was started in 2004, and has since been successfully competing around North America, and at the World Model UN Conference.

There are both a Calvin College Conservatives group as well as a Calvin College Democrats group on campus, as well as other groups of political nature including Model UN: Calvin College, the Social Justice Coalition, and Amnesty International.

Clubs and organizations on campus include the Model UN club, National Society of Black Engineers, Drama Club, Biology Club, the University Singers, as well as numerous fraternities and sororities.
