After its confluence with Ucayali River, the Marañón is given the name of the Amazon River.

It runs through a continuous forest at the bottom of the great depression lying between the Madeira River, which skirts the edge of the Brazilian sandstone plateau, and the Ucayali which hugs the base of the Andes.

The Amazon River takes its name close to Nauta city ( 100 km away from Iquitos ), in the confluence among Ucayali and Marañón rivers.

The Ucayali, together with Apurímac River, Ene River, and Tambo River, is today considered the main headwater of the Amazon River, totaling a length of from the source of the Apurímac at Nevado Mismi to the confluence of the Ucayali and Marañón Rivers:

One of them ( 1867 ) claimed to have reached within of Lima, and the little steamer " Napo " forced its way up the violent currents for above the junction with the Pachitea River as far as the Tambo River, from the confluence of the Ucayali with the Amazon.

Ucayali is home to the Amazon River Dolphin, giant otter, and the Amazonian Manatee, which are abundant in Pacaya-Samiria National Reserve, close to Nauta.

Filming took place in the Peruvian rainforest on the Amazon River during an arduous five week period, shooting on tributaries of the Ucayali region.

It is situated downstream of the confluence of the Ucayali and Marañón rivers, the two main headwaters of the Amazon River.

Its natural habitat Amazon River basin in Peru, Colombia, and Brazil, particularly the Ucayali, Solimões and Amazon rivers, as well as the rivers of Amapá in Brazil, the Oyapock River in French Guiana and the Essequibo River in Guyana.

The Yavari River runs from Peru to Brazil, the Putumayo River serves as part of the border with Colombia, and the Ucayali and Marañón rivers penetrate Loreto after going through the Pongo de Manseriche.

The " Napo " then succeeded in ascending the Urubamba branch of the Ucayali above its union with the Tambo, to a point north of Cuzco.

It is situated in the southwest of the Northern Region, bordering Amazonas to the north, Rondônia to the east, Bolivia to the southeast and the Ucayali Region of Peru to the south and west.

It is bordered by the Ucayali Region on the north ; the Madre de Dios and Puno regions on the east ; the Arequipa Region on the south ; and the Apurímac, Ayacucho and Junín regions on the west.

It is bordered by the La Libertad, San Martín, Loreto and Ucayali regions on the north ; the Ucayali Region on the east ; the Pasco Region on the south ; and the Lima and Ancash regions on the west.

The Junín Region borders the regions of Pasco on the north, Ucayali on the northeast and Cusco on the east.

The Ucayali Region is bordered by the Brazilian state of Acre on the east ; the region of Madre de Dios on the southeast ; Cusco on the south ; Junín, Pasco and Huánuco on the west ; and Loreto on the north.

In 1853, a Brazilian owned steam propelled paddle-wheeler made it all the way to the town of Nauta, located on the north bank of the major Upper Amazonian tributary, the Marañón River, a few miles from the confluence of the Río Ucayali ( Edward Mathews, 1879 ).

Madre de Dios is a region in southeastern Peru, bordering Brazil, Bolivia and the Peruvian regions of Puno, Cusco and Ucayali.

It is the capital of the Ucayali region, the Coronel Portillo Province and the Calleria District.

Between the Huallaga and the Ucayali lies the famous " Pampa del Sacramento ," a level region of stoneless alluvial lands covered with thick, dark forests, first entered by Christian missionaries in 1726.

Representing roughly 60 % of Peru's national territory, this area includes the Amazon, Marañón, Huallaga and Ucayali Rivers.

Its mouth is 42 miles west of the junction of the Ucayali with the Amazon.

The Ucayali was first called San Miguel, then Ucayali, Ucayare, Poro, Apu-Poro, Cocama and Rio de Cuzco.

Torres, who explored the Alto Ucayali for the Peruvian government, gives it a length of, counting from the mouth of the Pachitea to the junction of the Tambo and Urubamba.

The Marañón River (, ) rises about 160 km to the northeast of Lima, Peru, flows through a deeply-eroded Andean valley in a northwesterly direction, along the eastern base of the Cordillera of the Andes, as far as 5 degrees 36 ' southern latitude ; then it makes a great bend to the northeast, and cuts through the inland Andes, until at the Pongo de Manseriche it flows through the plains.
