At the Council of Clermont held in November of the same year, Urban II's sermon proved highly effective, as he summoned the attending nobility and the people to wrest the Holy Land and the eastern churches generally from the control of the Seljuk Turks.

Pope Urban II began the First Crusade in November 1095 at the Council of Clermont, France, when he exhorted French knights to retake the Holy Land in Palestine.

TU Delft has three officially recognized research institutes: Research Institute for Housing, Urban and Mobility Studies, International Research Centre for Telecommunications-transmission and Radar, and Reactor Institute Delft.

His son, Frederick Adams, was the first department head of Urban Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and was named a National Planning Pioneer by the American Institute of Certified Planners.

Sowell has served on the faculties of several universities, including Cornell University and University of California, Los Angeles, and worked for think tanks such as the Urban Institute.

He was Director of the Joint Center for Urban Studies at Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, as well as a Fellow on the faculty in the Center for Advanced Studies at Wesleyan University from 1964 to 1967.

In 2009, Schermerhorn Symphony Center was recognized as one of 25 North and South American finalists in the Urban Land Institute's ( ULI ) Awards for Excellence.

The project also won a design award from the American Society of Landscape Architects ( ASLA ) in 2006 and an award of distinction from the Urban Land Institute ( ULI ) in 2007.
