The White Mountain National Forest links the Vermont and Maine portions of the Appalachian Trail, and boasts the Mount Washington Auto Road, where visitors may drive to the top of Mount Washington.

The Marlboro College campus is located on South Road in the small town of Marlboro, Vermont in the wooded Green Mountains.

This is in reference to the public manor road that went north from the manor along the east side of the Hudson to where Troy now is, and then turned east across the area to Hoosick on the Vermont border, ( the latter half of the road is basically today's Route 7, and is still known as Hoosick Road ).

The Hoosick Road was a vital link to the then frontier settlement at Hoosick, ( settled in 1688 ), and which formed a link to both Bennington, Vermont and Williamstown.

Hazen's Notch State Park is located on Vermont Route 58, the Hazen's Notch Road.

At the base of these cliffs ( on the western side of the Notch Road, Vermont Route 108 ), there is a honeycomb network of talus caves.

Tram Route 75 originally terminated at the intersection of Blackburn Road and Burwood Highway until July 2005, with the completion of the 3 km line extension to Hartland Road in Vermont South.

One of Melbourne's major arterials, Canterbury Road, passes through the centre of Vermont, running east to west.

In the 1860s, however, the local growth of railroads stimulated development, as the New London Northern Railroad bought the Amherst & Palmer railroad in 1864 and in 1866 extended its line to a connection with the Vermont & Massachusetts at Grout's Corner.

Five different railroad lines were laid through the village site between 1847 and 1863 ( the Vermont Central Railway and Connecticut River Railroad in 1847, the Connecticut and Passumpsic Rivers Railroad in 1848, the Northern New Hampshire Railroad in 1849, and the Woodstock Railroad in 1863 ), creating an eight-track crossing that was served by 50 passenger trains daily.

After serving as a printer's apprentice to Amos Bliss, editor of the Northern Spectator, a newspaper in East Poultney, Vermont, and working as a printer on the Erie Gazette in Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1831 he went to New York City to seek his fortune as an editor.

The reorganized Northern Department included only that portion of the colony of New York north of the Hudson Highlands, and the present state of Vermont.

On April 14, 1776 that portion of New York north of the Hudson Highlands, and the present state of Vermont were separated from the Middle Department and organized as the Northern Department.
