Only nine months after winning the Cup, in March 1906, the Montreal Wanderers pushed through a resolution at the annual meeting of the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association ( ECAHA ) that would allow professional players to play alongside amateurs.

One of the last games of the period was an FA Cup Quarter-final second-leg tie clash between Stoke and Bolton Wanderers ; the match ended in tragedy in what would be known as the Burnden Park disaster – 33 people died and 500 were injured.

Founded as a team for the English community in Montreal, they joined the Montreal Canadiens, who appealed to the French Canadian population ; this was the first time since 1918, when the Montreal Wanderers folded, that Montreal would have a second hockey team.

The Wanderers would refuse to continue the series unless the tie was replayed in Montreal, and forfeited the series.

This was the start of a terrific rivalry as Ottawa and the Wanderers would split the championship between them from 1903 until 1911.

Ottawa and the Wanderers would meet again in 1906, after a regular season tie for first place in the ECAHA, and played a two-game total goals series for the league championship and the Cup.

The ' Silver Seven ' would storm back in the return match in Ottawa, with a 9 – 1 lead at one point in the game evening the total goals, but only won 9 – 3 as the Wanderers scored the last two goals, to win the series, and their first Stanley Cup.

The Wanderers would lose the Cup they had held for two years, finishing second place in the ECAHA to Ottawa.

This upset the other members of the ECHA, who would receive a smaller share of the proceeds from games played in the Wanderers rink.

The Wanderers would then miss the playoffs four seasons in a row.

The Wanderers would win only 15 of their next 44 games in two seasons, before the NHA folded.

The Jubilee was smaller than the Wanderers ' current rink, the Montreal Arena which meant visiting teams would earn less on their trips to play the Wanderers.

It would be the Wanderers ' only championship in the league.

Montreal's Dave Ritchie scored the first goal in NHL history and Harry Hyland had four goals in the Wanderers 10 – 9 victory, which would be their only one in the NHL.

Keane received offers from both Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers but decided to go to the First Division side, judging that it would be harder to break into the first team at Liverpool.

It was announced in 2007 that a joint venture between Wasps, Wycombe Wanderers and Wycombe District Council would fund a new stadium in the High Wycombe area.

Wasps and Wanderers funding would primarily be from Steve Hayes, who had become a 25 % share holder through a £ 250, 000 investment in Wycombe Wanderers in June 2004, when the football club became a plc company ; and later became managing director.

After spending six months looking for a new club, including a training stint with Bolton Wanderers, Petit announced his retirement on 20 January 2005, when he found out he required a knee operation and would probably never regain full fitness.

2006 – 07 will be the Berkshire club's first ever season in England's top flight ( though they would have been automatically promoted in 1995 as Division One runners-up had it not been for a reorganisation of the league which saw them forced into the playoffs where they had lost to Bolton Wanderers in the final ).

At the age of 17, he left the Fort to join up with Nairn County and would later go on to play in the Premier League with Bolton Wanderers and even represent Scotland as a full international.

After continuing to train with Birmingham over the summer in order to regain fitness, McFadden had a successful trial with Wolverhampton Wanderers in September, but he did not agree terms.

The first Cup Final was held at The Oval on 16 March 1872, fought between the Wanderers and the Royal Engineers, watched by 2, 000 spectators.

1923 also saw the club feature in the first FA Cup Final to be held at Wembley against Bolton Wanderers.

The club again failed to make it past the early round of any of the domestic clubs, losing in the first round to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the League Cup and Tranmere Rovers in both the FA Cup ( albeit after a replay ) and Football League Trophy.

Because the ECAHA was the top hockey league in Canada at the time, the Cup trustees agreed to open the challenges to professional teams .< ref name =" DiamondPrize-19 ">< nowiki > Diamond, Zweig, and Duplacey </ nowiki >, p. 19 </ ref > The first professional competition came one month later during the Wanderers ' two-game, total goals challenge series, which they won 17 goals to 5.

The first event held at the stadium was the FA Cup final on 28 April 1923 between Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United.

The 1953 FA Cup Final between Blackpool and Bolton Wanderers was dubbed the " Matthews Final " after Blackpool's winger Stanley Matthews.

They did manage to reach the final of the FA Cup, however, losing 2 – 0 to Bolton Wanderers, and even managed to beat Milan at Old Trafford in the semi-finals of the European Cup, only to lose 4 – 0 at the San Siro.

In a League Cup game less than a week later, he helped his side recover from being 3 – 1 down at half-time to win 8 – 3 against Wycombe Wanderers, scoring two goals in the second half comeback.

They won the FA Cup for the first time in 1896, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 – 1 at Crystal Palace.

The Wanderers win the series for their first Stanley Cup win, defeating the Silver Seven in a two-game total-goals series.

* 23 – 25 March — Montreal Wanderers regains the Stanley Cup by defeating the Thistles two games to none in a rematch.

* January 9 – 13-Montreal Wanderers defeat the Ottawa Victorias 9 – 3, 13 – 1 ( 22 – 4 ) in a two-game challenge to retain the Stanley Cup.

* March 7 — Montreal Wanderers win the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association ( ECAHA ) championship for the third year in a row and successfully defend the Stanley Cup.
