Rowland Heights was originally part of the Workman Temple homestead in California's rancho days.
In 2009 the Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum, burial site of Pico and his wife, received a private 1873 photograph of Pio Pico donated by a descendant of the Temple family. Compared with the 1858 image ( above and to the left ) Pico at age 72 now shows a generous beard, full eyebrows, symmetrical light reflection on his eyes and less prominence of his acromegalic features.

David Workman ( November 7, 1797 – July 1855 ) was born in Temple Sowerby, Westmorland, now Cumbria County, England to Thomas Workman ( 1763 – 1843 ) and Lucy Cook ( 1771-1830.
In November 1855, David Workman was buried at his brother's private El Campo Santo Cemetery, now part of the Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum in City of Industry, California, twenty miles east of Los Angeles.
