He was one of the founders of the original Wynkoop Brewing Company brewpub ; these and others companies contributed to the redevelopment of the area following the arrival of major league baseball in the neighborhood.

On September 28, 1864, Black Kettle holds council with Colorado Territory Governor John Evans, Colonel Chivington and Major Wynkoop ( Arron Shiver ), to ensure peace.

This attack originated on November 29, 1864, from Fort Lyon following an argument between Tappan and Chivington where Tappan tried to dissuade Chivington from making the attack on the Indian villages which were under the protection of the Federal troops at Fort Lyon pursuant to an agreement reached that Fall with the then Commander of Fort Lyon, Major Edward S. Wynkoop.

The Wynkoop has a large billiards hall on its top floor, and the basement level is home to Impulse Theater, an improvisational comedy club.
