Sam Cooke recorded a double-time version of " Tennessee Waltz " for his Ain't That Good News album recorded 28 January 1964 at the RCA Studio in Hollywood.

Released March 1, 1964, Ain't That Good News would be the final album release of new material by Cooke, and " Tennessee Waltz ," coupled with another album track: " Good Times ," would be the final Sam Cooke single released during the singer's lifetime, with " Tennessee Waltz ," the original B-side, becoming sufficiently popular to chart at # 35.

Malin released a covers album on 7 April 2008 entitled On Your Sleeve, containing covers of songs by, among others, The Ramones, Sam Cooke, Neil Young and The Hold Steady, as well as a studio recording of a long-time live favourite, Fred Neil's " Everybody's Talkin '.

Shep Cooke fondly remembers his time with the band: " We rehearsed like crazy, finished the third Stone Poney album, toured the entire country for 2½ months, played on Joey Bishop's and Johnny Carson's TV shows *, went crazy for lack of sleep, and parted company ( after the last gig in late 1968 ) reasonably good friends but a little disillusioned about ' the big time '.
