There were two classes of archangels: the metropolitan archangels, of which there were supposed to be six in each tribe ( this was never fully implemented throughout the tribes ); and the universal archangels, who were called by word of prophecy to the post without being in charge of a " metropolitan congregation "; these last were at the disposition of the apostles for missions within the Church at large.
