Jawbreaker was an American punk rock band active from 1986 to 1996 and considered one of the most influential acts of the early-1990s emo movement.

Pfahler continued to issue previously-recorded Jawbreaker material through his Blackball Records label, and public interest in the band continued due in part to nationally-charting pop punk and emo acts openly indebted to Jawbreaker's sound.

In 2007 Jawbreaker briefly reunited in the studio during the recording of a documentary film about the band, but rumors of a full reunion have repeatedly been dispelled by the members and the film has no projected release date.

The band soon changed their name to Jawbreaker and Schwarzenbach, Pfahler, and Bauermeister decided to continue as a trio with Schwarzenbach on vocals.

In the summer of 1990 Jawbreaker embarked on the " Fuck 90 " tour with Econochrist, which proved to be a grueling experience that briefly broke up the band.

Fans bristled against this, wary that it would result in Jawbreaker — a beloved independent band — signing to major label DGC Records, whom Nirvana were contracted to.

Rumors persist of a Jawbreaker reunion, but they have been continually dispelled by the band members.

" Its single " Yoo Hoo " appeared on the soundtrack to Jawbreaker, starring Rose McGowan ; McGowan also appeared alongside the band in the video for the song, which was included on the Jawbreaker DVD.

" Through Being Cool " is also the name of a Devo song, as well as a lyrical excerpt from the song " Unlisted Track " by Jawbreaker, a band which influenced Conley.

In the late 70s and early 80s, there was a new sound emerging with up and coming groups like McAllen's Espejismo, led by songwriter / lead singer Rudy Valdez, and more notably Brownsville natives Joe Lopez, Jimmy Gonzalez y El Grupo Mazz introduced the keyboard sound to Tejano which was influenced by the Disco sound of the era, and during that period, La Mafia became the first Tejano band to put on Rock Style shows for their generation.
