At the Yorkshire club's Annual General Meeting in 1925: Hawke made a famous statement that has often been both quoted and misquoted:

However, in the 1950s little investment was made either for players or to The Valley, hampering the club's growth.

However, after the club's relegation little investment was made in The Valley as it fell into decline.

Over the next five years modifications were made to this design, such as the addition of a circle surrounding the hand and sword and including the club's name in the badge.

The appointment was confirmed in July 2009, and Dalglish was also made the club's ambassador.

Once the modern World Series began in 1903, it took the Phillies 77 years from that point ( and 97 years from the club's establishment ) to win their first World Series — longer than any of the 16 teams that made up the major leagues for the first half of the 20th century.
