The Sahara desert ecoregion, as defined by the World Wide Fund for Nature ( WWF ), includes the hyper-arid center of the Sahara, between 18 ° and 30 ° N. It is one of several desert and xeric shrubland ecoregions that cover the northern portion of the African continent.

The ecoregion also includes areas of rocky upland and seasonally wet clay and salt pans, particularly Lake Eyre, the centre of one of the largest inland drainage systems in the world, including the Georgina and Diamantina Rivers.

It includes ponds, woods and beachfront of the Atlantic coastal pine barrens ecoregion.

Dona Ana County lies within the Chihuahuan Desert ecoregion, and the vegetation surrounding the built portions of the city are typical of this setting ; it includes Creosote Bush ( Larrea tridentata ), Soaptree ( Yucca elata ), Tarbush ( Flourensia cernua ), Broom Dalea ( Psorothamnus scoparius ), and various desert grasses such as Tobosa ( Hilaria mutica or Pleuraphis mutica ) and Black Grama ( Bouteloua eriopoda ).

For example, the ecoregion called Ozark Mountain Forests includes the Ouachita Mountains, although the Arkansas River valley and the Ouachitas, both south of the Boston Mountains, are not usually considered part of the Ozarks.

The ecoregion includes a great variety of plant communities, including grasslands, Oak savannas and woodlands, chaparral, and coniferous forests, including southern stands of the tall Coast redwood ( Sequoia sempervirens ).

The flora of this ecoregion also includes tree species such as Gray or foothill pine ( Pinus sabiniana ), Scrub oak ( Quercus dumosa ), California buckeye ( Aesculus californica ), the rare Gowen cypress ( Cupressus goveniana ), the rare Monterey cypress ( Cupressus macrocarpa ), and a wealth of endemic plant species, including the extremely rare San Gabriel Mountain liveforever ( Dudlea densiflora ), Catalina mahogany ( Cercocarpus traskiae ), and the threatened most beautiful jewel-flower ( Streptanthus albidus ssp.

The Vanuatu rain forests are a terrestrial ecoregion that includes the islands of Vanuatu, as well as the Santa Cruz Islands group of the neighboring Solomon Islands.

The Solomon Islands rain forests are a terrestrial ecoregion which includes most of the Solomon Islands ( except the Santa Cruz Islands ) and the islands of Bougainville and Buka, which are part of Papua New Guinea.

In southeast Azerbaijan, this ecoregion includes the Lankaran Lowland and the Talysh Mountains, the latter being evenly divided with Iran to the south.

The islands are part of the Southern Indian Ocean Islands tundra ecoregion that includes several subantarctic islands.

The ecoregion includes the coastal region behind the Coromandel Coast on the Bay of Bengal, between the Eastern Ghats and the sea.

The subhumid forests ecoregion also includes the disjunct Analavelona and Isalo massifs to the southwest, surrounded by succulent forests at lower elevations.

The protected area, designated for the protection of habitats and species includes pre-existing environments and the nascent ecosystems of the volcanic structures of Capelo, as well as the fragile ecoregion created by the Capelinhos eruption ;

In southeast Azerbaijan, this ecoregion includes the Lankaran Lowland and the Talysh Mountains.

The ecoregion includes the lowland forests extending from the Gulf of Guinea a few hundred kilometers inland, from western Côte d ' Ivoire to the western shore of Lake Volta in Ghana.

The boundaries for the largest part of this ecoregion, which includes the Tassili n ' Ajjer Ahaggar and Aïr ( or Azbine ) massifs, follow the ' regs ,' ' hamadas ' and ' wadis ' above the 1000 m contour.

Despite the harsh conditions the islands do support vegetation and have been described as the Scotia Sea Islands tundra ecoregion, which includes South Georgia, the volcanic South Sandwich Islands and the South Orkneys in the Scotia Sea as well as the remote South Shetland Islands near the Antarctic Peninsula and the small isolated volcano Bouvet Island.

The ecoregion includes the cities of Bangalore and Mysore in Karnataka, and Coimbatore, Karur, Erode and Salem in Tamil Nadu.

The ecoregion covers 77, 700 square kilometers ( 30, 000 square miles ) and includes most of the Peninsula's western slope.

The Antipodes Subantarctic Islands tundra ecoregion, within the Tundra Biome, includes five remote island groups in the Southern Ocean south of New Zealand: the Bounty Islands, Auckland Islands, Antipodes Islands and Campbell Island groups of New Zealand, and Macquarie Island of Australia.

The ecoregion covers an area of, and includes several well-defined enclaves that range along the Atlantic coast from Brazil's northeast to southeast, extending from the tropics to the subtropics.

The Columbia Glaciated ecoregion, making up about a third of the total watershed, lies in the north and was covered with ice sheets during the Pleistocene.

The Columbia Unglaciated ecoregion makes up the rest of the watershed.

The Georgia Strait – Puget Sound basin is shared between British Columbia and Washington, and the Pacific temperate rain forests ecoregion, which is the largest of the world's temperate rain forest ecozones in the system created by the World Wildlife Fund, stretches along the coast from Alaska to California.

Spokane lies in the Columbia Plateau ecoregion on the eastern edge of the basaltic Channeled Scablands steppe, a plain that then eventually rises sharply to the east towards the rugged, timbered Rocky Mountain foothills, the Selkirk Mountains.

Sub-ecoregions of the Pacific temperate rain forest ecoregion as defined by the WWF include the Northern Pacific coastal forests, Queen Charlotte Islands ecoregion, Vancouver Island ecoregion, British Columbia mainland coastal forests, Central Pacific coastal forests, Southern Cascades forests ecoregion, Klamath-Siskiyou coastal forests, and Northern California coastal forests ecoregions.

Part of the Columbia Plateau is associated with the Columbia Plateau ecoregion, part of the ' Nearctic temperate and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands ' ecoregion of the Temperate grasslands, savannas, and shrublands Biome.

Fourteen fish species found in the upper Snake are also found in the Bonneville freshwater ecoregion ( which covers the Great Basin portion of Utah ), but not the lower Snake or Columbia rivers.

The country is divided into four geographic regions: A lowland belt running north to south behind the coast ( Lower Guinea ), which is part of the Guinean forest-savanna mosaic ecoregion ; the pastoral Fouta Djallon highlands ( Middle Guinea ); the northern savanna ( Upper Guinea ); and a southeastern rain-forest region ( Forest Guinea ).

The Western Australia Mallee shrub ecoregion lies to the west, the Little Sandy Desert to the northwest, the Gibson Desert and the Central Ranges xeric shrublands to the north, the Tirari and Sturt Stony deserts to the east, while the Nullarbor Plain to the south separates it from the Southern Ocean.

The Bushveld area has been demarcated by the World Wildlife Fund as part of the Angolan Mopane woodlands ecoregion, which extends north across the Cunene River into neighbouring Angola.

In the north near the border with Angola there is a flat area that has been designated by the World Wildlife Fund as part of the Angolan Mopane woodlands ecoregion.

The Sahara desert ecoregion covers an area of in the hot, hyper-arid center of the Sahara, surrounded on the north, south, east, and west by desert ecoregions with higher rainfall and more vegetation.

The North Saharan steppe and woodlands ecoregion lies to the north and west, bordering the Mediterranean climate regions of Africa's Mediterranean and North Atlantic coasts.

The woodland mix varies according to geography and climate so for example the Eastern Canadian forests ecoregion of the higher elevations of the Laurentian Mountains and the northern Appalachian Mountains in Canada is dominated by balsam fir Abies balsamea, while further north the Eastern Canadian Shield taiga of northern Quebec and Labrador is notably black spruce Picea mariana and tamarack larch Larix laricina.

The plateaus of southern Benin ( altitude comprised between 20 meters and 200 meters ) are split by valleys running north to south along the Couffo, Zou, and Oueme Rivers, an area that has been categorised by the World Wildlife Fund as part of the Guinean forest-savanna mosaic ecoregion.

It is a transitional ecoregion of semi-arid grasslands, savannas, steppes, and thorn shrublands lying between the wooded Sudanian savanna to the south and the Sahara to the north.

Potlatch is north of the confluence of Rock Creek and the Palouse River, on the edge of the Palouse ecoregion.

The lowland areas of the Chao Phraya watershed in central Thailand have been designated as the Chao Phraya freshwater swamp forests, a tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests ecoregion, an area about 400 km north to south and 180 km wide.

Peterborough lies in the St. Lawrence Lowlands ecoregion in Canada, just south of the Canadian Shield and about 35 kilometres north of Lake Ontario.

The Jornada del Muerto Desert ecoregion, in the Deserts and xeric shrublands Biome, is a wide and long stretch of flat desert landforms and xeric habitat about from north to south.

The north of the Darling River is in the Southeast Australia temperate savanna ecoregion and the south west of the Darling is part of the Murray Darling Depression ecoregion.

Most savanna in Australia is used for grazing livestock, but in this far north, vast areas of grassland are in their original state and dotted with Darwin stringybark and Darwin woollybutt eucalyptus trees ; these grasslands are a unique and highly important ecoregion.

To the north the Valdivian forests give way to the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub of the Chilean Matorral ecoregion.

At the northern end of the ecoregion are deciduous forests, dominated by two deciduous species of southern beech: rauli ( Nothofagus alpina ) and roble ( N. obliqua ); this is a transitional zone to the Mediterranean-climate forests to the north.

The Santa Cruz Islands lie just north of the archipelago of Vanuatu, and are considered part of the Vanuatu rain forests ecoregion.

The climate in this ecoregion varies from humid subtropical in the south to humid continental in the north.

The ecoregion is home to two important wetlands, Kaliveli Lake north of Pondicherry in Viluppuram District of Tamil Nadu, and Pulicat Lake north of Chennai.

To the north, it blends into the larger Piney Woods terrestrial ecoregion of which it is a part.
