The museum's first floor houses a Victorian village, with shop fronts representing emporia selling period wares ; a Victorian Science and Industry Room displays shells, rocks, minerals, and Native American artifacts in beautiful turn-of-the-20th-century cases, as well as stuffed birds, a small Egyptian mummy, model steam engines, elaborate examples of Victorian glassblowing, golden elephant bearing the world on its back, and a shrunken head ; and a Music Room, filled with mechanized musical instruments — including player pianos, reproducing pianos, orchestrions, and others — dating from the 1870s through the 1920s.

Matrika Design Collaborative is currently designing the museum's Indian Miniature Painting Gallery.

At the same time, one of the museum's most widely recognized and popular artifacts, the Lockheed M-21, a modified Lockheed A-12 Oxcart designed to carry the Lockheed D-21 reconnaissance drones, was placed on the floor at the center of the Great Gallery, after being fully restored.

The museum encompasses more than of display space, The museum's collection includes over 2, 000 works of western art, the " William S. and Ann Atherton Art of the American West Gallery ".

Works are on view in rotating installations in the museum's Julius Levy Memorial Gallery.
