Interestingly ancient documents have the town's name spelt ' Holm Frith ' which can be translated as ' Holly Wood ', though the word " Firth " is an old English name meaning ' wood and woodland ' indicating the name means Holme woods.

Many of the town's few commercial businesses, including the Oasis Lounge and the Ranch House Cafe, can be found along Park Avenue.

The ruins of their hideout can be found on the nearby West Rock ridge, which run along the town's eastern border.

Today, though, native speakers of Alsatian are dying out, and fewer of the town's residents can trace their ancestry back to the original Castro colonists.

The line of the town's star-shaped fortifications can still be traced by lines of tall poplar trees and in places by a moat.
