The village's only grocery store, pharmacy, and gas station closed, leaving New Preston largely devoid of essential services.

On the village's south side, a Pick ' n Save grocery store is the anchor tenant of a new commercial development, Highland Ridge.

High Road, which was the village's high street, has waned in popularity recently with several established businesses, such as Dunning's grocery store, having shut down.

The orca then terrorizes the village, first by sinking two fishing boats in broad daylight and then by breaking fuel lines at night, which causes a fire and subsequent explosion of the village's fuel reserves.

The village's post office building, the George and John R. Hunt Memorial Building and the former D & H Canal are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

Today the village's Shaker Cemetery is maintained by the township trustees and is open to the public ; while most of the settlement's buildings remain along Oxford Road, they are all privately owned.

Many of the village's historic buildings are encompassed by the Albany Street Historic District and Cazenovia Village Historic District.

The theater served as the village's fire department at one point.

D. M. Bare's influence can be found in practically every aspect of town life: out of his general store in 1864, he developed a department store which became known as " the company store ;", now Roaring Spring Department Store, in 1867, he co-sponsored the construction of the first Methodist Church ; from 1868 to 1883, he served as one of the first postmasters, nominating the village's name change to Roaring Spring in 1868 ; he oversaw the creation of the town's first modern utilities, including the telephone system ( 1880 ), the water supply ( 1892 ), and electrical service ( 1892 ).

Oregon is served primarily by US-14 and Wisconsin Highway 138 and the two highways meet at the village's southeast corner.
