( 1833 – 1900 ), Professor of Theology in the Hamma Divinity School was famously tried for and unanimously acquitted of heresy by the Board of Directors at Wittenberg on April 4 and April 5, 1893, which put on trial many key issues that Lutherans still debate today.

The Department of Theology is still officially Roman Catholic, alone in Quebec in this regard.

The department still runs evening lectures as well as a more fully developed correspondence course offered at three levels: the Preliminary Theological Certificate, the Certificate in Theology and the Diploma in Biblical Studies.

In 1998 Volf took the position that he still holds, that of Henry B. Wright Professor of Theology at Yale Divinity School in New Haven, CT.

University of Wales, Lampeter ( formerly St David's College, Lampeter ), ceased to confer its own degrees when it joined the University of Wales, but retains the right to confer degrees and other qualifications, and still awards the Licence in Theology ( LTh ) in its own right.

" His eight-volume work describing this approach to theology, Systematic Theology, was first published in 1948 and is still a required textbook for some courses at DTS.

Theology must come to one final synthesis, as Schaff expressed in his remark that “ the Reformation must be regarded as still incomplete.

While still teaching at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, he also began teaching at the University of Notre Dame, where he became a Professor of Theology and eventually a Fellow of the Institute for International Peace Studies.

Other than these theological textbooks, and the aforementioned works of the mixture of prose and poetry, Alan of Lille had numerous other works on numerous subjects, primarily including Speculative Theology, Theoretical Moral Theology, Practical Moral Theology, and various collections of poems.

Theology translates into English from the Greek theologia ( θεολογία ) which derived from theos ( θεός ), meaning God, and logia ( λόγια ), meaning utterances, sayings, or oracles ( a word related to logos, meaning word, discourse, account, or reasoning ) which had passed into Latin as theologia and into French as théologie.

Besides history, his academic studies had for periods been devoted both to Theology and Medicine.

In 1413 Antipope John XXIII founded the University's department of Theology, which for quite some time had only a few students.

As a Biblical critic he is sometimes classed with the destructive school, but, as Otto Pfleiderer says ( Development of Theology ), he " occupied as free a position as the Rationalists with regard to the literal authority of the creeds of the church, but that he sought to give their due value to the religious feelings, which the Rationalists had not done, and, with a more unfettered mind towards history, to maintain the connection of the present life of the church with the past.

Initially, the titles of master and doctor were used interchangeably for the final degrees, but by the late Middle Ages the terms Master of Arts and Doctor of Theology / Divinity, Doctor of Laws and Doctor of Medicine had largely become standard.

The John Paul II Theology Lectureship: In 2007, the Theology department announced that a donor had endowed a new lectureship to be named in honor of the late Pope John Paul II.

The proposition also defined nine disciplines: Latin, Greek, Hebrew, Modern languages, Theology, Philosophy, Mathematics, History with Geography and Natural history, of which the prospective student had to have a grade of approbatur ( Latin ; in Swedish godkänd ) in six and admittitur ( a lower grade, in Swedish called försvarlig ) in the three other to be allowed to enter university.

The academy in Tartu functioned with Philosophy, Law, Theology and Medical Faculties enjoying the privileges of the University of Uppsala.

In 1431 Pope Eugene IV completely reorganized the studium with the bull In supremae, in which he granted masters and students alike the broadest possible privileges and decreed that the university should include the four schools of Law, Medicine, Philosophy and Theology.

Pope John Paul II's last book, Memory and Identity, mentions the importance of the Thomistic philosophy and theology of the prominent doctor of the Catholic Church St. Thomas Aquinas to come to a deeper understanding of the Pope's personalist ( phenomenological ) presentation of Humanae Vitae in his Theology of the Body catechesis, since he saw the limitations of a strictly phenomenological approach.

Theology courses offer instruction in the Catholic faith, morality and worship, and stress the importance of individual faith development.

Jesuitism is not a systematically developed Moral Theology school ( and the word is not found in any Theological Dictionary ), but some Jesuit theologians, in view of promoting personal responsibility and the respect of freedom of conscience, stressed the importance of the ' case by case ' approach to personal moral decisions and ultimately developed and accepted a casuistry ( the study of cases of consciences ) where at the time of decision, individual inclinations were more important than the moral law itself.

In June 1476, he started his studies at the University of Leuven, where he pursued philosophy, theology and Canon Law, due to a scholarship granted by Margaret of York, Duchess of Burgundy, becoming a Doctor of Theology in 1491, Dean of St. Peter's and vice-chancellor of the university.

Theology ( from Ancient Greek meaning " God " and ,-logy, meaning " study of ") is the systematic and rational study of religion and its influences and of the nature of religious truths, or the learned profession acquired by completing specialized training in religious studies, usually at a university or school of divinity or seminary.

There is some evidence of academic studies in Uppsala during the 16th century ; the Faculty of Theology is mentioned in a document from 1526, King Eric XIV appointed Laurentius Petri Gothus ( later archbishop ) rector of the university in 1566, and his successor and brother John III appointed a number of professors in the period 1569 – 1574.

Approval was finally received from the Pope in 1384 and the University of Vienna was granted the status of a full university, including the Faculty of Catholic Theology.

The central university complex with the main library and Mensa ( dining hall ) is located right next to the inner city and comprises the faculties for Theology, Law, Economics / Business Administration and Linguistics.

In 2007, the university reestablished its presence in Orange County when the Theological Studies Department began offering a two-year Master's program in Pastoral Theology in Orange, California.

The university awards Baccalaureate degrees in all departments and Master's Degrees in all areas except Theology.

Theology, Law and Medical were the main schools in the university, with Arts and Science studies.

The university specialises in Theology, Religious Studies, Philosophy, Classics, Anthropology, Archaeology, English and History.

The Sheikh Khalifa Building, completed in 1997 and named after Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a benefactor of the university, is the home of the Department of Theology, Religious Studies and Islamic Studies, one the largest departments of its kind in the United Kingdom.

Today it offers more than 90 educational programs, primarily at the master's level, in eight of the nine faculties of the university ( Administration ; Education ; Engineering ; Law ; Letters and Humanities ; Medicine and Health Sciences ; Science ; Theology, Ethics and Philosophy ).

This private education in theology continued until the university could hire its own professors in 1938, and in 1942 Aarhus University could at long last establish the Faculty of Theology.

In July 2009 the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley ( JST ), formerly an independent institution, legally merged with the university, taking the name " Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University.

Santa Clara University university also has six graduate and professional schools, including the School of Law, School of Engineering, the Leavey School of Business, the School of Education and Counseling Psychology, and the Jesuit School of Theology ( campus located in Berkeley, California ).

The predecessor facilities, which existed since 1638, were converted into Jesuit school, and finally, upon instigation of the Jesuits and with the support of the Silesian Oberamtsrat ( Second Secretary ) Johannes Adrian von Plencken, donated as a university in 1702 by Emperor Leopold I as a School of Philosophy and Catholic Theology with the designated name Leopoldina.

The Roman Catholic Faculty of Theology and the Evangelical Theological Faculty joined the university.

In 1972 the College for Philosophy and Theology, which was founded in 1923 and was modeled on the tradition of the old university, was combined with the Teachers Training College ( established in 1958 ) to become the Gesamthochschule of Bamberg ( i. e. a University and a University of Applied Sciences combined in one institution ).

There is also a Faculty of ( Roman Catholic ) Theology, affiliated to the university but administratively independent.

During this period, the university consisted of five faculties ( facultades ): Humanities & Philosophy, Physics Sciences & Mathematics, Law & Political Sciences, Medicine, and Theology.
