Anthroposophy took over from Theosophy a complex system of cycles of world development and human evolution.

Gardner states that he had reconstructed elements of the religion from fragments, incorporating elements from Freemasonry, the Occult, and Theosophy, which came together in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, where Gardner met Aleister Crowley, whose influence became the basis for Wiccan magical practices.

New Age practices and philosophies sometimes draw inspiration from major world religions: Buddhism, Taoism, Chinese folk religion, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam ( especially Sufism ), Judaism ( especially Kabbalah ), Sikhism ; with strong influences from East Asian religions, Gnosticism, Neopaganism, New Thought, Spiritualism, Theosophy, Universalism and Western esotericism.

The third figure was the Russian Helena Blavatsky ( 1831 – 1891 ), one of the founders of the Theosophical Society, through which she propagated her religious movement of Theosophy, which itself combined a number of elements from Eastern religions like Hinduism and Buddhism with Western elements.

In Esoteric Christianity, theurgy usually is the practice of trying to gain the knowledge and conversation of one's Higher Self, or Inner God, to teach one spiritual truths and wisdom from God that one couldn't learn from man ( see Alchemy, Kabbalah, and Theosophy ).

Theosophy draws on Neoplatonic emanationism, in particular the concept of separation from and return to the Absolute, and reworks the Eastern concepts of karma and reincarnation to provide an evolutionary theory of both humankind and the universe.

Theosophy teaches that human beings and all organisms including animals and all matter " flow " from a pure spiritual formation in the absolute to a material one over time to become materialised but later will return to the absolute after the cosmic cycle of life.

Blavatsky in her book The Key to Theosophy ( 1889 ) wrote that: " We believe in a universal divine principle, the root of all, from which all proceeds, and within which all shall be at the end of the great cycle of being.

According to Joscelyn Godwin's research: " the basic outlines of Evola's prehistory resemble those of Theosophy, with Lemurian, Atlantean, and Aryan root-races succeeding each other, and a pole-shift marking the transition from one epoch to another " ( Arktos, p. 60 ).

The idea was adopted by Vedanta and Yoga philosophy, and from there, in the 19th century, the terminology was adopted by the Theosophy of Madame Blavatsky.

In a one-year period, from 1906 to 1907, he published three books, Consciousness: Animal, Human and Superhuman based on his experience with Theosophy, Friedrich Nietzsche: the Dionysian Spirit of the Age and Nietzsche in Outline and Aphorism.

His rational critique of Theosophy evoked an editiorial rebuttal from The Theosophical Review and in 1907, he terminated his association with the Society.

Though Bailey's writings differ from the orthodox Theosophy of Madame Blavatsky, they also have much in common with it.

In Theosophy, the beings that helped Sanat Kumara organize the expedition from Venus are called the " Lords of the Flame ".

It is believed in Theosophy that Sanat Kumara captures the mystical power of the Seven Rays from the Solar Logos and distributes it to his assistants who guide the spiritual evolution of humanity, the Masters of the Ancient Wisdom ( the Ascended masters ), who then focus the power to us.

They added more than 200 new " Ascended Masters " that they claimed to receive dictations from in addition to receiving dictations from the original Masters of the Ancient Wisdom of Theosophy.

The fourth root race, the Atlantean, according to Theosophy arose approximately 4, 500, 000 years ago in Africa from the fourth subrace of the Lemurians in a part of Africa that had been colonized by that subrace in the area now inhabited by the Ashanti.

In 1923, with the help of Foster Bailey, Alice Bailey also founded the Arcane School ( also part of Lucis Trust ), which gave ( and still gives ) a series of correspondence courses based on her heterodox version of Theosophy, which accepted the basic Theosophical views on karma, reincarnation, masters, a divine plan, and humanity's achievement of their original divine status ( Bailey, pp. 192 – 193 ).

Theosophy is considered a part of the broader field of esotericism, referring to hidden knowledge or wisdom that offers the individual enlightenment and salvation.

* In the New Age Ascended Master Teachings of the Church Universal and Triumphant ( which are based on Theosophy ) it is believed that the Master Kuthumi has a special organization around him called the Order of the Brothers of the Golden Robe that is dedicated to the enlightenment of humanity through the second ray of wisdom.

In Theosophy, Steiner suggested that human beings unite a physical body of a nature common to ( and that ultimately returns to ) the inorganic world ; a life body ( also called the etheric body ), in common with all living creatures ( including plants ); a bearer of sentience or consciousness ( also called the astral body ), in common with all animals ; and the ego, which anchors the faculty of self-awareness unique to human beings.

This report, which had a marked effect on Theosophy, remains as with all SPR reports the opinion of the member concerned ; the SPR holds no corporate opinions.

" When referring to the ideas related to Blavatsky and the Theosophical Society, the word " Theosophy " is capitalized ; otherwise it is not.

He approved of an ethnic nationalist state centered on the Orthodox Church ( in 1927, despite his still-vivid interest in Theosophy, he recommended young intellectuals " the return to the Church "), which he opposed to, among others, the secular nationalism of Constantin Rădulescu-Motru ; referring to this particular ideal as " Romanianism ", Eliade was, in 1934, still viewing it as " neither fascism, nor chauvinism ".

Prior to this time, Theosophy had made little headway in Germany ; despite some visits by Helena Blavatsky, a founder of the Theosophical Society, to Germany and its prominent Theosophists, it was not until after her death in 1891 that a single Berlin Lodge was officially chartered in 1894.

According to traditional Theosophy, the Lemurian root race began 34½ million years ago, in the middle of what was then believed to be the Jurassic ; thus, the people of Lemuria coexisted with the dinosaurs.

He became a member of the Theosophical Society and associated with Dr. Anna Kingsford ( 1846-1888 ), one of the first female British physicians and supporter of women's rights, animal rights, vegetarianism and, who, besides being one of the pioneers of higher education for women, had become a student of Theosophy ; with her he brought out Keys of the Creeds ( 1875 ), The Perfect Way: or the Finding of Christ ( 1882 ), and founded the Hermetic Society in 1884.

During the 1900s ( decade ) and early 1910s, Roerich, largely due to the influence of his wife Helena, developed an interest in eastern religions, as well as alternative belief systems such as Theosophy.
