In 2004 the British hip hop group The Streets released A Grand Don't Come for Free, a concept album charting a period of the protagonists life in which he meets a girl, starts a relationship with her and then breaks up with her after finding out she has been cheating on him.

One of the first rappers in the beginning of the hip hop period, in the end of ' 70s, was also hip hop's first DJ, Kool Herc.

Golden age hip hop ( cited as either just the late ' 80s or the late 80s to early 90s ) was the time period where hip-hop lyricism went through its most drastic transformation – writer William Jelani Cobb says " in these golden years, a critical mass of mic prodigies were literally creating themselves and their art form at the same time " and Allmusic writes, " rhymers like PE's Chuck D, Big Daddy Kane, KRS-One, and Rakim basically invented the complex wordplay and lyrical kung-fu of later hip-hop ”.

This time period is also considered part of the golden age of hip hop.

Old school hip hop ( also spelled " old skool ") describes the earliest commercially recorded hip hop music ( approximately from 1979 – 1984 ), and the music in the period preceding it from which it was directly descended ( see Roots of hip hop ).

This same period is sometimes referred to as " mid-school " or a " middle school " in hip hop, the phrase covering acts like Gang Starr, The UMC's, Main Source, Lord Finesse, EPMD, Just Ice, Stetsasonic, True Mathematics, and Mantronix.

Music-based subcultures are particularly vulnerable to this process, and so what may be considered a subculture at one stage in its history — such as jazz, goth, punk, hip hop and rave cultures — may represent mainstream taste within a short period of time.

He is currently finishing work on his album ' Od Hejt do Aplauzi ' which will feature many new songs as well as remakes of some of his most popular demo's.

It began with singer-songwriters like Carole King and Carly Simon topping the charts, while New York City saw a period of great innovation ; hip hop, punk rock and salsa were invented in 70s New York, which was also a center for electronic music, techno and disco.

In contrast to the works of Boyz II Men, Babyface and similar artists, other R & B artists from this same period began adding even more of a hip hop sound to their work.

Paid in Full was released during the period in hip hop that became known as the golden age hip hop era.
