* June 29 – Ford 9N tractor with Ferguson hydraulic three-point hitch first demonstrated at Dearborn, Michigan.

Industrialist and pioneer of the modern agricultural tractor, Harry Ferguson, was instrumental in setting up the race, which was known as the Ards TT.

The drawbar system was virtually the exclusive method of attaching implements ( other than direct attachment to the tractor ) before Harry Ferguson developed the three-point hitch.

It was the British firm Airfix, whose first self assembly model was a Ferguson tractor around 1950, that brought the idea of the constant scale to the marketplace, and they picked the RAF's scale.

A lucrative deal was also arranged to build the small Ferguson Company tractor which helped fill some of the large war time factory space.

This variant was powered by the Standard 1670 cc wet-liner motor, as used with different capacities in the Vanguard cars, and the Ferguson tractor.

In 1978 Massey Ferguson was the first to introduce an electronic control system for the three-point hitch on a tractor.

Since 1962, Massey Ferguson has been the world's leading tractor brand.

The company's first mass produced tractor was the Massey Harris Ferguson TVO which was quickly replaced by the Diesel 20.

In 1958 the MF35, the first Massey Ferguson branded tractor ( a Ferguson design ) rolled off the factory floor.

Massey-Harris merged with the Ferguson Company in 1953 and brought together their twin skills in harvesting machinery and tractor design to produce one of the world ’ s most powerful forces in farm equipment.

The range was introduced in June 1959 with the Massey Ferguson 65 tractor ( 50 ) finished in the manufacturer's familiar red and white colours.

An accompanying Massey Ferguson trailer ( 51 ) was introduced at the same time, and in April 1960 an operational shovel was added to the tractor as the Massey Ferguson 65 Tractor Shovel ( 53 ).

The Tandem Disc Harrow Plough Trailer ( 71 ) was relreased in July 1967 and an updated Agricultural Gift Set ( GS5 ) in October 1967, which featured some of the more recent releases such as the Dodge Kew Fargo and the Massey Ferguson 165 tractor with scoop.

The last in this range to be released was to be used with the Massey Ferguson 65 Tractor ( 50 ) and was a red painted cast metal platform carrying three metal milk churns which clipped to the rear of the tractor.

They first ventured into tractor production in a joint project with Harry Ferguson in 1936 building the Ferguson-Brown tractor.

Model airplane engines with reed-valves can be mounted in either tractor or pusher configuration without needing to change the propeller.

In 1938 the 12 / 20 model was redesigned and the model coding was changed so that the new model became the Marshall Model " M " tractor.

In America, Wanamaker's commission built on Glen Curtiss ' previous development and experience with the Model E for the U. S. Navy and soon resulted in the Model H. The H series began as a conventional biplane design with two-bay, unstaggered wings of unequal span with two tractor ( pulling, not pushing ) inline engines mounted side-by-side above the fuselage in the interplane gap.

Wisconsinites experimented with over-snow vehicles before 1900, trying bicycles on runners with gripping fins, steam-propelled sleighs and later Model T Fords converted with rear tractor treads and skis in front.

In 1945, Cockshutt Farm Equipment Ltd of Brantford, Ontario, Canada, introduced the Cockshutt Model 30 tractor with live power take-off ( LPTO ).

Massey-Harris built early tractor models including the 20 horsepower Massey-Harris GP 15 / 22 ( 1930 – 36 ), 25 horsepower Massey-Harris Pacemaker ( 1936 – 39 ), 35 horsepower Model 101 ( 1938 – 42 ), Massey-Harris Pony, Model 20, Model 81, and Model 744.

The first Fordson Model F was completed in 1916 and was the first small, lightweight, mass-produced, affordable tractor in the world, making it possible for the average farmer to own a tractor for the first time.

Thus Henry Ford and colleagues had done again, for the tractor, what they had recently done for the automobile with the Ford Model T. The Fordson tractor went into mass production in 1917 and debuted for sale on October 8, 1917, for $ 750.

Fordson tractor design was headed by Eugene Farkas and József Galamb, both involved in the design of the successful Ford Model T automobile.

Henry Ford introduced a newly designed tractor known as the Model B in August 1915 at a plowing demonstration in Fremont, Nebraska.

The Model B was never produced, but did gain enough publicity to let the world know Ford was interested in developing a tractor.

The Fordson Model F was completed in 1916 and was the first lightweight, mass produced tractor in the world, making it possible for the average farmer to own a tractor for the first time.

At a hurriedly built factory in Dearborn, Michigan, he used the same assembly line techniques he used to mass produce the Ford Model T. It took thirty hours and forty minutes to convert the raw materials into the 4, 000 parts used for the tractor assembly.

The " Hoyt-Clagwell " tractor on the TV sitcom Green Acres was a Fordson Model F. It was known to randomly ' explode ' followed by one or both of the rear wheels falling off.

Ford incorporated his private company, Henry Ford and Son, Inc, to mass produce the tractor on July 27, 1917.

Many farm tractor designs have incorporated their engine block, transmission case, and rear axle housing as frame members.
