Thubten Gyatso, the 13th Dalai Lama, returned to Tibet in January 1913 from Sikkim, where he had been residing.

Also in 1906, Sir Charles Alfred Bell, was invited to visit Thubten Chökyi Nyima, the 9th Panchen Lama at Tashilhunpo, where they had friendly discussions on the political situation.

TKC then became part of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition, the international network of Tibetan Buddhist centers founded by the Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Thubten Zopa Rinpoche.

In 1989, Turnbull moved to Bloomington, Indiana to participate to the building of Tibetan Cultural Center with his friend Thupten Jigme Norbu, elder brother of the 14th Dalai Lama.

The first born Karmapa, Trinley Thaye Dorje, has been recognized by Shamar Rinpoche ( regarded by some as the senior lama in the Karma Kagyu hierarchy just below the Karmapa ), Lama Jigme Rinpoche, Topga Yulgyal Rinpoche, Lopon Tsechu Rinpoche, Sherab Gyaltsen Rinpoche, the Venerable Khenchen Rinpoche Drupon Trinley Paljor, and the Fourth Trungram Gyaltrul Rinpoche.

Jigme Lingpa even admits that the ancient ordinance of Lha Lama Shiwa O and Changchub O, which famously censured the indulgences of Nyingma practitioners, might have been merited.

In 1987 Jigme Phuntsok met and befriended the Ninth Panchen Lama.
