In November 1914, Chaplin appeared in the first feature length comedy film, Tillie's Punctured Romance, directed by Sennett.

The Keystone Cops serve as supporting players for Marie Dressler, Mabel Normand, and Chaplin in the first full-length Sennett comedy feature, Tillie's Punctured Romance ( 1914 ), as well as in Mabel's New Hero ( 1913 ) with Normand and Arbuckle, Making a Living ( 1914 ) with Chaplin in his first screen appearance ( pre-Tramp ), In the Clutches of the Gang ( 1914 ) with Normand, Arbuckle, and Al St. John, and Wished on Mabel ( 1915 ) with Arbuckle and Normand, among others.

Berle recalled, " There were even trips out to Hollywood — the studios paid — where I got parts in Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, with Mary Pickford ; The Mark of Zorro, with Douglas Fairbanks, Sr., and Tillie's Punctured Romance, with Charlie Chaplin, Mabel Normand and Marie Dressler.

However, Berle's claims to have appeared in many of these films, particularly the 1914 Chaplin Keystone comedy Tillie's Punctured Romance, are hotly disputed by some, who cite the lack of supporting evidence that Berle even visited the West Coast until much later.

After Mack Sennett became the owner of his namesake motion picture studio, he convinced Dressler to star in his highly successful 1914 silent film Tillie's Punctured Romance.

Although it's usually assumed that his performance in this film predated his crafting of the Tramp persona, Chaplin had already appeared in more than 30 shorts as the Tramp by the time Tillie's Punctured Romance was released as the first full-length comedy feature on November 14, 1914.

Another comedy called Tillie's Punctured Romance was released in 1928 starring W. C. Fields as a circus ringmaster.

Tillie's Punctured Romance is the name of two early comedy films:

Syd and Minnie Chaplin arrived in California, then, in October 1914 and he made a few comedies there, including the " Gussle " comedies and the feature-length A Submarine Pirate in 1915, which, second to Tillie's Punctured Romance, was the most financially successful comedy Keystone ever made.

However, in February 2010, officials of both organizations said they had destroyed all but four of the more than 125 artifacts, an act denounced by Save Tillie's president, Bob Crane, who said that at no time was Save Tillie alerted to the impending loss or given a chance to reclaim the items.

The film is based on Dressler's stage play Tillie's Nightmare.

Mr. Goodman is mentioned on many occasions, but never seen, although the dialogue often implies that he is the only positive role model in Tillie's life.

In between, he had a significant role as ZaSu Pitts ' father in director Erich von Stroheim's acclaimed 1924 MGM production, Greed, although the part was cut from the film and the footage is now lost, and in 1928 in the Christie Film Company version of Tillie's Punctured Romance with W. C. Fields ( which had nothing to do with the 1914 Chaplin version, which Conklin had also appeared in, aside from the title ).

More and more, these days, she'd been driving that pretty little mare that looked like her, over to Tillie's and Nick's -- his own old square frame box on posts, chickens and cats and pups under the house, everybody friendly inside, making a to-do over the babies dressed like dollies.

" The movie was based on Dressler's hit Tillie's Nightmare, a choice credited either to Dressler or to a Keystone studio employee.

He does so, and reads the story about Tillie's Uncle Banks, a millionaire who died while on a mountain-climbing expedition.

When he sees that Tillie's father has a very large bankroll for his workers, he persuades her to elope with him.

In the city, he meets the woman he was seeing already, and tries to work around the complication to steal Tillie's money.

Tillie's face was saved ; but the rest of the building, built more than a century ago, was not.
