It appears that Hooke was one of a group of students whom Busby educated in parallel to the main work of the school.

Dr. Richard Busby ( 27 September 1606 – 1695 ) was an English Anglican priest who served as head master of Westminster School for more than fifty-five years.

A network of streets in the East of Kentish Town has streets named after places or persons connected with Christ Church, Oxford viz: Oseney, Busby, Gaisford, Caversham, Islip, Wolsey, Frideswide, Peckwater & Hammond.

From Westminster School, where he was a scholar under Richard Busby, at the age of eighteen he was elected to Christ Church, Oxford in 1681.
