Soumitra Chatterjee or Soumitra Chattopadhyay ( Shoumitro Chôṭṭopaddhae ; born 19 January 1935 ) is an iconic Bengali actor from India, known among other things for his frequent collaborations with the great Bengali film director Satyajit Ray and his constant comparison with the Bengali screen idol Uttam Kumar.

He was equally confident in playing the swashbuckling horse-riding villain in Sinha's Jhinder Bandi giving the legendary Uttam Kumar a tough challenge.

Uttam Kumar ( 3 September 1926 – 24 July 1980 ) is one of the most famous names of Indian Bengali Cinema.

Born Arun Kumar Chatterjee in 1926 at Ahiritola, North Calcutta he is widely known as Uttam Kumar and Mahanayak ( The great hero ).

Uttam Kumar was born in Kolkata in the home of his maternal uncle at Ahiritola, while his ancestral house is on Girish Mukherjee Road, Bhowanipore, Kolkata.

Uttam Kumar was the eldest of three sons ( Arun, Barun and Tarun ) of Satkari Chatterjee and Chapala Debi.

There are several films in which Uttam Kumar and Tarun Kumar starred together like Saptapadi, Sonar Harin, Maya Mriga, Sesh Anka, Deya Neya, Jeeban-Mrityu, Dhanyi Meye, Mon Niye, Sanyasi Raja, and Agniswar.

Uttam Kumar married Gauri Debi Ganguly.

Uttam Kumar was especially adored for his effortless naturalism in front of the camera and a distinctively urbane charisma that broke free from the prototypical Bengali screen hero of the past.

In fact, this film may be considered as a tribute to Uttam Kumar.

Prior to this, she had appeared in two Bengali films: a 13-minute short film, Suman, and a Bengali comedy Dhanni Meye ( 1971 ), as Uttam Kumar's sister-in law.

He also had to conclude his marriage with the daughter of Udit Singh, the nephew of Raja Uttam Ram Gaur of Sheopur in March, 1701.

Many Ollywood films of the 1980s had Uttam Mohanty in it, and he dominated the Oriya film industry.

He came into prominence in the film Basu Paribar and his breakthrough film was Agni Pariksha that began the roaring success of the all-time romantic pair of Uttam Kumar-Suchitra Sen ; though they had first starred in Sharey Chuattor ( 74 and a half anna ).

Uttam made the role of Arindam ( Mukherjee ) his own and Ray later confessed that if Uttam had refused the film, he would have abandoned it.

A perfectionist, Uttam Kumar performed on stage for a full year, opposite Sabitri Chatterjee in Star Theatre in the play " Shyamali " screen, he played opposite Kaberi Boseto hone up his skill as an actor.

The story concerns a matinee idol ( played by Uttam Kumar ) on a cross-country train journey, who is placed in the midst of various psychodramas unfolding among a varied cast of mostly wealthy characters.

Satindra Bhattacharya replaced Uttam Kumar as Bakshi while Shailen Mukherjee reprised his role as Ajit.

It is a whodunit suspense thriller, starring Uttam Kumar as Byomkesh Bakshi.

Uttam Kumar, playing Bakshi, and director Satyajit Ray won a National Award.

Ziaur Rahman, Bir Uttam, ( Ji-yaur Rôhman ) ( 19 January 1936 – 30 May 1981 ) was a Bangladeshi politician, the seventh President of Bangladesh ( 1977 ) and an army officer, who read the Declaration of Independence of Bangladesh on behalf of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

It was directed by Tulsi Ghimire and starred Dilip Rayamajhi, Niruta Singh and Uttam Pradhan.

As of 2011, Subhash Ghai was reportedly in negotiations to convert the film to 3D format, but in March 2012, it was reported that Shaan Uttam Singh, the grandson of GP Sippy said he was bringing the film to 3D, to be released on 15 August 2012.
