* Yuan Dehui ( c. 19th century ) was an interpreter, best known for translating sections of Emerich de Vattel's Le droit des gens into Chinese.

Vattel's work was also heavily influenced by Gottfried Leibniz and Hugo Grotius.

The act was upheld by the United States Supreme Court in the Selective Draft Law Cases in 1918, a decision based partially on Vattel's The Law of Nations of 1758.

Focused largely on the rights and obligations of citizens and states, Vattel's work also had ramifications for Just War Theory as it outlined international diplomacy as we now know it.
