Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was a leader in the Indian independence movement who was influenced by Giuseppe Garibaldi and Giuseppe Mazzini.

Hindutva ( Devanagari: ह ि न ् द ु त ् व, " Hinduness ", a word coined by Vinayak Damodar Savarkar in his 1923 pamphlet entitled Hindutva: Who is a Hindu?

The commemorative blue plaque on India House fixed by the Historic Building and Monuments Commission for England reads " Vinayak Damodar Savarkar 1883-1966 Indian patriot and philosopher lived here ".

Vinayak was born in the family of Damodar and Radhabai Savarkar in the village of Bhagur, near the city of Nasik, Maharashtra.

Along with Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Dr. Mookerjee is considered the godfather of Hindu nationalism in India, especially the Hindutva movement. Though Dr. Mookerjee was not associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, he is widely revered by members and supporters of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

He drew upon influences from social and spiritual Hindu reformers such as Swami Vivekananda, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and Aurobindo to develop the core philosophy of the RSS.
