The borders of present-day Ghana were realized in May 1956 when the people of the Volta region, known as British Mandated Togoland, voted in a plebiscite to become part of modern Ghana.

Galvani's scientific colleagues generally accepted his views, but Alessandro Volta rejected the idea of an " animal electric fluid ," replying that the frog's legs responded to differences in metal temper, composition, and bulk.

Building on Galvani's 1780s discovery of how a circuit of two metals and a frog's leg can cause the frog's leg to respond, Volta demonstrated in 1794 that when two metals and brine-soaked cloth or cardboard are arranged in a circuit they produce an electric current.

Thus, owing to an argument between the two in regard to the source or cause of the electricity, Volta built the first battery in order to specifically disprove his associate's theory.

Since Galvani was reluctant to intervene in the controversy with Volta, he trusted his nephew to act as the main defender of the theory of animal electricity.

The word electrophorus was coined by Volta from the Greek ήλεκτρον (' elektron '), and ϕέρω (' phero '), meaning ' electricity bearer '.

For this reason Volta called it elettroforo perpetuo ( the perpetual electricity bearer ).

Although electricity had been known to be produced as a result of the chemical reactions that take place in an electrolytic cell since Alessandro Volta developed the voltaic pile in 1800, its production by this means was, and still is, expensive.

In the beginning of 2007, there were concerns over the electricity supply from the dam due to low water levels in the Lake Volta reservoir.

Having not been performed live in over a decade, the song would later be performed during the 2007-08 Volta Tour with the Icelandic " Wonderbrass " brass section, sometimes also with fellow Sugarcubes vocalist Einar Örn on trumpet.
