Vought and LTV
For the controls of the American Vought F-8 Crusader and the LTV A-7 Corsair II warplanes, a ' bob-weight ' was used in the pitch axis of the control stick, giving force feedback that was proportional to the airplane's normal acceleration.

These have included, in the past, Lewis and Vought Corporation, Chance Vought, Vought Sikorsky, LTV Aerospace ( part of Ling-Temco-Vought ), Vought Aircraft Companies, and the current Vought Aircraft Industries.
Vought was sold from LTV and owned in various degrees by the Carlyle Group and Northrop Grumman in the early 1990s.
Vought was bought by James Ling in 1962, forming the new conglomerate Ling-Temco-Vought ( LTV ).
Yet despite the buyout, Vought Aeronautics and Vought Missiles and Space continued to develop and produce for the Air Force and Navy under the umbrella of LTV Aerospace.
By the early 1980s, LTV was struggling, and Vought suffered heavy layoffs.
All of LTV Aerospace was renamed the Vought Corporation in 1976, but by 1983 the Vought company was again split along aeronautic and missile lines under LTV Aerospace and Defense.
The company then went into a series of divestitures, most notably the entire LTV Aerospace division ; the aerospace component retained the legacy Vought name as the independent Vought Corporation while the missile component later became part of Loral and later became the Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control division.

Vought and Crusader
On July 16, 1957, Glenn completed the first supersonic transcontinental flight in a Vought F8U-1P Crusader.
At the time the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II was offered to the Navy, the Vought F-8 Crusader had already been accepted as a " day " dogfighter, while the subsonic McDonnell F3H Demon was the Navy's all-weather fighter.

Vought began manufacture of its F-8 Crusader for the US Navy in 1957, one of the first Navy fighters capable of supersonic flight and the Navy's last all-gun fighter.
The AIM-9C was a semi-active radar homing variant of the Sidewinder, developed for the US Navy's Vought F-8 Crusader, but used for only a limited period of time.
