* 1971 – The first Pacific Islands Forum ( then known as the " South Pacific Forum ") is held in Wellington, New Zealand, with the aim of enhancing cooperation between the independent countries of the Pacific Ocean.

Queen Charlotte Sound defines its western side, while to the south lies Tory Channel, which is on the sea route from Wellington in the North Island to Picton.

The most famous story, first published in a collection called Break of Dark, is titled Blackham's Wimpy, the name of a Vickers Wellington Bomber featured in the story, whose nickname comes from the character J. Wellington Wimpy from the Popeye comics and cartoons ( the Wellington was named for Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, victor over Napoleon ).

* 2004 – New Zealand Tomb of the Unknown Warrior is dedicated at the National War Memorial, Wellington.

There is a plaque and bench located at the Wadestown Library, Wellington New Zealand in an area called " Spike Milligan Corner ".

On March 12, 1986, Double Trouble arrived in New Zealand for a performance at the Wellington Town Hall, where Vaughan was sitting outside his hotel room.

* Wellington Town never relocated, but changed its name in 1969 to Telford United, after the new town of Telford ( formed in 1963 ) was expanded to include the club's home of Wellington.
