* Richard Strauss's standard repertory opera Ariadne auf Naxos was preceded by a L ' Arianna each by Claudio Monteverdi and Carlo Agostino Badia, by an opera Ariadne ( 1691 ) by German composer Johann Georg Conradi, and by non-operatic Ariadne auf Naxos works including a cantata based on the Heinrich Wilhelm von Gerstenberg poem and Jiri Antonin Benda's melodrama Ariadne auf Naxos ( Benda ), and by Joseph Haydn's cantata Arianna a Naxos.

The standard edition is that published by Wilhelm Streitberg in 1910 as Die Gotische Bibel ( The Gothic Bible ).

This, effectively, is the distinction observed by Hans Waitz, Wilhelm Schneemelcher and Philipp Vielhauer in what is often termed the " standard " edition of the New Testament Apocrypha.

His most notable work was developing comparative grammar studies of the Bantu languages, building on the pioneering work of Wilhelm Bleek.

His reputation took a sudden downturn in April and May 1947, when articles by journalist Mildred Edie Brady ( 1906 – 1965 ) appeared in Harper's and The New Republic, the latter entitled " The Strange Case of Wilhelm Reich ", with the subhead, " The man who blames both neuroses and cancer on unsatisfactory sexual activities has been repudiated by only one scientific journal.
