If the party of Adenauer and Erhart, with 45 per cent of the vote, approaches the party of Willy Brandt, which won 36 per cent, the result would be a stiffening of the old resolve.

Willy Brandt (; born Herbert Frahm ; 18 December 1913 – 8 October 1992 ) was a German statesman and politician, leader of the German Social Democratic Party of Germany ( Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands, or SPD ) from 1964 to 1987, and chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1969 to 1974.

One of the volunteers was a young Willy Brandt ( 1913 – 1992 ), Reich's secretary's boyfriend and future chancellor of Germany, who was in Norway to escape the Nazis.
