Following the disastrous One from the Heart, Coppola co-directed Hammett along with Wim Wenders in the same year.

Other up-and-coming filmmakers allied themselves to this Oberhausen group, among them Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Volker Schlöndorff, Werner Herzog, Jean-Marie Straub, Wim Wenders, Werner Schroeter and Hans-Jürgen Syberberg in their rejection of the existing German film industry and their determination to build a new industry founded on artistic excellence rather than commercial dictates.

Jarmusch was the only person Ray brought to work – as his personal assistant – on Lightning Over Water, a documentary about his dying years on which he was collaborating with Wim Wenders.

He also appeared in The Great Muppet Caper, The Princess Bride, Murder By Death, The Cheap Detective, Vibes, Made, and ( as himself ) in Wim Wenders ' 1987 film Wings of Desire and its 1993 sequel, Faraway, So Close !.

The film Paris, Texas by Wim Wenders was named after the city, but was not set there.

Some scenes of the 1987 Wim Wenders movie Der Himmel über Berlin ( English title: Wings of Desire ) were filmed on the old, almost entirely void Potsdamer Platz before the Berlin Wall fell.

A brief reunion occurred, however, later that year for " Sax and Violins ," an original single that appeared on the soundtrack to Wim Wenders ' Until the End of the World.
