Yahalom SF Unit operates many types of robots, including bomb disposal robots, Reconnaissance robots and remote-controlled heavy equipment ( such as " Raam HaShachar " D9N bulldozer, and the " Front-Runner " mini-cat loader ).

The unit dates back to 2004 when the IDF merged the Southern Command Philadelphi Route Smuggling tunnel experts team into Yahalom to form the SAMOOR platoon.

In the IDF, the demolition experts are united in Sayeret Yael of Yahalom ( Sayeret is the Israeli name for SF elite unit ) and therefore gain high infantry training as well.

Sayeret Yahalom is a classified unit and almost none of its special activities are exposed to the public. According to Rebbenu Bachya, the word Yahalom in the verse Exodus 28: 18 means " pearl " and was the stone on the Hoshen representing the tribe of Zebulun.
