The film is structured as an epic and makes frequent use of flashbacks to highlight elements not made explicit in the play: Hamlet's sexual relationship with Kate Winslet's Ophelia, for example, or his childhood affection for Yorick ( played by Ken Dodd ).

Much later, it is revealed that Yorick impregnated the second " Beth ".

After some minor misadventures, Yorick is reunited with Ampersand.

It is alluded to that 355 is the only person Yorick loves and respects.

Yorick is introduced to a younger clone of himself ( Yorick Brown, the Seventeenth ), and he imparts some advice regarding the breadth of life's experiences to his clone before escaping when the clone turns away.

The source of the plague that wiped out every living mammal with a Y chromosome except Yorick Brown, Ampersand and Doctor Matsumori is never fully explained.

It is also suggested that the wedding ring Yorick bought for Beth may have protected him and Ampersand from the effect of this curse.

Actor Shia LaBeouf, who has worked with these writers for the films Disturbia and Eagle Eye, has previously stated that he is unwilling to play the role of Yorick.

Zachary Levi, who plays the lead in the TV series Chuck, has expressed interest in playing Yorick as he is a fan of the comic book series, even going as far as having his character Chuck Bartowski read the Y: The Last Man graphic novel in the episode " Chuck Versus the Nacho Sampler ".

David Herbert Munro ( born April 29, 1955 in Oakland, California ) is a physicist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory ( LLNL ) who created the programming language Yorick as well as the scientific graphics library Gist.

* Condover was the birthplace of Richard Tarlton ( c1530-1588 ), actor and court jester on whom the Shakespearian character of Yorick is thought to have been the based.

Hamlet holds the skull of the court jester, Yorick, and says " Alas, poor Yorick!

Hamlet arrives with Horatio and banters with one of them, who unearths the skull of a jester whom Hamlet once knew, Yorick (" Alas, Poor Yorick ; I knew him, Horatio .").

When the churchyard of St. George's was redeveloped in the 1960s, his skull was disinterred ( in a manner befitting somebody who chose for himself the nickname of " Yorick "), partly identified by the fact that it was the only skull of the five in Sterne's grave that bore evidence of having been anatomised, and transferred to Coxwold Churchyard in 1969.

Other biographers claim Kean stole a finger rather than a toe, and a relatively unreliable American writer claims that after Cooke's skull was used as the skull of Yorick in a performance of Hamlet, members of a private New York club ( including Daniel Webster and Henry Wheaton ) subjected the skull to phrenological examination.

This was previously done on The Jack Paar Show and later reprised on this show April 21, 1968, and reprised on August 29, 2011 at the D23 Expo by Leslie Carrara-Rudolph ( who was operating a rebuilt version of Kermit's pre-frog form ) and Brian Henson ( who was operating a rebuilt and redesigned version of Yorick ).

Dr. Mann studies Yorick and Ampersand, and finds that Ampersand has an unspecified immunity to the " plague " which he passed on to Yorick by throwing feces at him.

Toyota takes Ampersand to Japan, and Yorick, 355, and Dr. Mann follow by sea.

Later, Yorick and 355 are captured by Toyota, but 355 kills Toyota in a rooftop duel.

He had tried to turn Ampersand into a biological weapon that would kill the clone his daughter was gestating, but the monkey was mis-delivered to Yorick by happenstance.

" An early acquaintance with Lawrence Sterne resulted in Combe's anonymous Letters supposed to have been written by Yorick and Eliza ( 1779 ).

When Yorick notices the count reads Hamlet, he points with his finger at Yorick's name, mentioning that he is Yorick.
